• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Squeaky Brakes = new pads ?

On my RTS when starting my ride, the brakes squeak really bad when going down. My steep hill driveway. After sometime the squeaking is minimal but sometimes there. I ride 4 times a week so it isn't from lack of use.
Should I have it serviced or have new pads?

squeaky brakes

You don't mention your mileage; however I'll make a guess that you don't have enough to warrant pad replacements. First order is clean well with brake cleaner spray, the dirt makes them noisy, if this doesn't work go to your local auto parts store and ask them for some brake pad quieter (not the correct term but the best I can come up with currently, they will understand and get you the blue stuff ) Remove the pads and apply the brake quiet to the REAR of the pads and reinstall; should now be silent!

:agree: If that doesn't cure it: You could remove the pads, and file a beveled edge on the leading edge of them.
(That was our trick for dirt bikes... those brakes were ALWAYS gunked, crudded, and mucked-up!)

A few good quick hard brake stops works too. Lets say 30MPH then hit the brakes hard till you drop to 10MPH. See if that helps any.

The thickness of the brake pad material is what determines replacement needs. Which is 1mm or about 3/4 the width of a dime. Give some of these remedies a try. Cheaper and easier than new pads.

Thanks Gang

I don't have the mechanical ability to remove or service the pads, but was more concerned with having it serviced if needed.
I only have 7,500 miles and riding is mostly country farm riding. Will take all your suggestions and keep an eye on the results.

Some info on Pad wear.... I ride pretty hard but don't use my brakes a lot .... 25,000 on rear ( replaced them ) ..... 33,000 on fronts - they are still good for at least another 5,000 mi.....,Mike
