Needless to say we left the Casino about 2:30PM Saturday and decided to ride until sunday evening. We managed to put 1000 plus miles and decided to stop and rest. Monday morning we took off about 8am and continued on our journey.
Here comes the sticky part... Upon gasing up just east of Rawlings, WY, my spyder went into limp mode. Checked the oil etc and all was visabley well. After about 15 minutes I tried to start the spyder again and wow, it started and no engine check, no limp mode, so we continued on to the next gas stop.
Upon filling at the gas stop, the spyder again got the check engine and went into limp mode. I then waited for 15 minutes and tried again and same thing.. I waited another 15 minutes and bingo it started without the check engine and no limp mode.
So our journey continued, and upon at the gas stop in Salt Lake City, UT, I got the check engine and limp mode.. After 30-45 mintues, still check engine. During all this limp mode process Doc kept suggesting that I stop and get help at the Salt Lake City dealer. I finally agreed, and Doc called Best, and we got a tow truck to take the spyder to the Dealer. This was at 2am Mon. I told Doc there was no need in his staying with me, and he was hesitant in doing so, but he went on his way, with the knowledge that we could always keep in touch via cell and DAVE01 ( as the central control ) and Dave was right there all the time. Thanks Dave.
After checking in the motel and getting up at 9am Mon and getting a ride to the dealer I found that the dealer HIGH ADVENTURE POWER SPORTS had the spyder back in service and was doing diagnostics and apparently talking with BRP.
About 1PM Justin, the service manager, came out, they loaned me a couch and I napped while they were working, and told me the bad and the good news.
1st that the throttle body was bad. none on the shelf inventory. And of course you can just see my reaction...LOL.
2nd that BRP had approved they pull a spyder off the floor and use it as a part donor. WOW I said and it is all under waranty and due to my being far far from home base.
At this point I have to say hurah for BRP's input as it would have taken 3 days to ship and receive the throttle body.
Now that was only the beginning of the fantastic service at High Adventure, it was said that I would be ready to go by the end of the day. Well I just currled up on the couch and took a nap only to be awaken by Justin telling me I am ready to go......That was about 5PM.
Time to pay for the oil change and belt adjustment, all other work was completed under waranty, and readjusted my load, I left High Adventure at 6:15PM Mon. BIG BIG THANKS to HIGH ADVENTURE and BRP for getting me on the road.. Expecally Justin and Gary.. I owe you guys.
Well after getting out of Salt Lake City on I80. I had more issues... NO NO.. not with the spyder, but the wind... the wind gusts were just horrible and until I got out of the desert area I had to stop 2 times and rest my arm and get unstressed.
Then I hit I5 and went north to Redding, CA and then over the rt 299, good road, busy and twisty, not too many passing zones, and then I saw a sign Eureka, CA 40 miles.. I said to myself " great " I may make it before supper.
I arrived at the hotel at 2PM Tue, and the other spyders at the event were just returning from the Redwood ride... grrrrrrrrr... missed it.
I called Doc, and he was on his way and would be there soon... OK, yep,,, I beat him to Eureka and that is a first. But under the circumstances, I think not due to his misforturne.
Upon his arrival we then proceeded to the cookshack for the Event Dinner.
Doc headed back to Reno after a brief sleep, and did not awaken me when he left, so I got a lot more sleep.
Wed I started to head south to Hollister, CA ( Corbin ) as I have an appointment at 8AM Thursday.
Wed night I met up with Doc at the Hollister, CA Hotel.
Arriving at Corbin, thrusday am, Ticketbait, John Crum was there, what a suprise. We had a bit of breakfast and photo session. Doc then check out the new Corbin Bags that were being exchanged for his leaking ones. Then off Doc went heading to LA for a business meeting on Friday am. There I sat lonely and abbandoned. HAH not true, John stayed the day while Corbin built my seat., at 5PM Thursday out the dooe I went and headed for the motel for a nights rest before the trip HOME. ( Doc and Dave called and we started to make a route plan to return home. It was either I 20 or I 10...and I finally chose I 10. That is another story.
