So, at the Deadwood Three Wheel Rally today, my wife daughter and I decided that we need a gear lower than first. We want to call it the Harley gear for the Spyders so we can go slow enough to stay behind the the Harley and Goldwing trikes and not run them over in the twisties.
We made it around several and then got caught behind a tour bus on Iron Mountain Road and I'll be darned if the bus didn't outrun the Harleys and Goldwings too. For those that haven't experienced it, the road is something like 314 curves, 2 splits, 3 single lane tunnels, 3 pigtails and several switchbacks. The bus stuck to the posted speed and did let us around at the the first chance he got, but he was hauling tail until then. The regular trikes slowed way down and were averaging maybe 10 under... We know the road of course and average...well, we'll say something more exciting than posted...
I don’t know of the regular type trikes are that hard to handle on twisites, but from what we saw, they are certainly no match for our Spyders...
