Speaking from first hand experience, often this sort of 'attendance or participation restriction' is forced upon event organisers because the local Authorities, various Permit granters, or maybe even Insurance companies just don't know enough about the 'banned or restricted' vehicles concerned or possibly their ryders/drivers to make a properly informed decision; so they take the easy way out & simply say 'Not Allowed'! :gaah:
There's no real point in getting your knickers in a twist about it, especially so when it comes to venting your frustrations on the organisers who may simply be the victims of circumstances beyond their immediate control!! Then again, if it is going to be an ongoing event, you could try gently educating the people/authorities imposing the restrictions instead of aggressively arguing with them or resorting to using the media to get in their faces - I've generally found that doing that just triggers an automatic response to react in kind & just dig their heels in!! :lecturef_smilie:
We ran a vaguely similar event here in South Aust earlier this year, & because the local cops had never seen more than just a few Spyders on the road together at any one time & they'd seen how other road users often concentrated on checking us out rather than their driving, so they were concerned of the impact we'd have on all the other traffic.... so we were restricted to ryding around the place in groups of 10 or less Spyders! We complied for the various rydes as necessary, breaking up into smaller groups & travelling slightly different routes & at staggered times etc but still managing to get over 110 Spyders assembled at the various venues for the desired pics & event functions etc. Then when I sought approval for a repeat event we've scheduled for next year, & I asked if the restriction on ryde group numbers would still apply, their immediate response was 'no longer necessary' - we'd been no problem at all this year, they'd seen us in action, they knew how we fitted in with the rest of the traffic, how well the attending ryders basically behaved, how WE weren't any issue in thd traffic; & as a result we are now one of the few 'motorcycle events' in this State to gain approval to travel unescorted thru the city in groups of more than 20, let alone the 150 or so Spyders we are planning on gathering!
Surprisingly, it seems that you really can catch more flies with honey than you can catch with vinegar!
