Spyders allergic to water?

Yesterday, I had the Spyder in the driveway while I was working on my daughters car. Out of nowhere, we got a downpour! I did run out and put a car cover over her, but she still got a bit wet. After I finished up, I started the spyder to put her in the garage, and was hit with orange!! No messages, just orange. I drove her in, wiped her down, and let her sit last night. This morning, still orange, but after letting it sit another 15-20 minutes, it was better, but the left turn signal didn't work! I still took her for a ride, and after she warmed up, everything was normal.

Are they normally that sensitive to moisture?

Just a thought. Perhaps covering her when already wet caused the problem. If the cover was on for very long or if the sun came out while it was on it could have caused condensation to develop in places it shouldn't/wouldn't normally have. Again.....just a thought.

Mine certainly hasn't been sensitive to rain. Although we don't normally get a lot of rain, we rode for 5 days in a row in the rain around Taos, NM with no problems at all.

My 2011 RTS has been rained on a few times and no issues. I actually got enough advance warning the last time to put the cover on before it started raining. Good news is the cover works well also. Recommend have service check it out.

Covering when wet wasn't a good idea, Sought-of closing the darn door after the cows got out.
The cover is made to keep water out, So if the Spyder is already wet that cover will also keep the water in.

Would have got alot worse if I hadn't covered it. I caught it before the downpour started, and then left it uncovered in the garage for the night.

I do think there could be another problem though. After a ride this evening, I left her outside while I cleaned up, and moved the cars back into their proper spots. When I turned her on again to put her in the garage, orange again..

Its been raining here for 5 days and my Spyder is doing fine.....I own a Harley shop so Spyder usually gets left in outside most times when we have to get the bikes in from the rain. And I ride nearly everyday so it sees its share of wet time especially this week with this storm lingering in the Gulf......now my garage door opener I left on the dash thats another story:banghead:

I washed mine Saturday morning and it acted funny when I started it up. Seemed like it was on only one piston for about 50 ft and then it started running right again. It was fine after I got it warmed up.

I try to be very careful with the spray and do it as gentle as possible.

I have a Spyder RT-S 2010 SE5 Model

On a recent trip to Scotland just outside Edinburgh on the A1 got caught in a Heavy Storm (Cloud burst) Within 60 Secs up to 2-3" of rain on the road, Could feel the Spyder starting to aquaplane and it felt like the engine was about to cut out, changed down a gear to keep the Revs up
only doing about 20-25 mph anyway

Pulled off the main road into a Farm entrance which was up a slight incline, Could see the water running down the hill. Kept the engine ticking over
to help dry out the Spyder, After 3-4 Mins the worst of the Rain had gone and I contlinued my journey without any problems

I did pass some solo motorcyclist at the same time and was so pleased to have been on 3 wheels and not the 2, I use to ride

This might sound like a stupid question and I apologize up front if it is, but when you say orange, orange dash or some sort of warning?

My RT dash(LCD) turns orange at night, when I put my spyder in the garage it's dark enough that the dash turns orange just as if it was night.

Just a thought.

That could be it. I'll have to check it, or maybe see if I can find it in the owners manual. I had seen the orange before when my rear trunk wasn't latched, and equated it with trouble.

Just a thought but you might want to check those plug wires, my bike gets absolutely soaked when I wash it and no problems I even use high pressure setting after oil changes to clean off road grime and belt rubber from engine area.

I used to be paid to find water & weather related weak spots in all sorts of electronic/mechanical gear used in oil field exploration.

I hear horror stories about people looking for gas leaks with a lit match:shocked:... to test for weak electric spots, would you spray water, and wait for a "tingle"?:roflblack:

Teds Red Sled (11'RT-S) is our daily & ONLY transportation thru rain, sleet & snow

We'd suggest checking ALL of your battery & electrical connections including the fuses & relays, cause we seriously doubt rain is your problem. Many of us have (& do) ridden our Spyders in the rain, with little to no issues at all, minus a little hydro-planing every now & then, which letting off the throttle just a tad usually corrects without issue.

I've even had Teds Red Sled here at work, without the cover on, & had an unexpected inch or two of the white stuff a couple years back, but still never had an issue with the wet stuff. So, if after checking your connections, your still having issues, we'd suggest seeing a qualified Spyder Tech to see if he can help resolve your Spyders woes ;)

Really?:roflblack::joke:

Ok.. so now I'm embarrased... I guess this is normal operation.. orange display in the dark... Probably with the week I've had so far, I saw that color, and associated with a problem. :opps:

Less than a week after bringing my new 2010 RT home I wound up riding in the rain. The "tracks" that develop in each lane of the road had quite a bit of water in spots and when I dropped the rear tire in one, the Spyder began to cut out. I was thinking that was just great, a brand new bike and I was gonna have to walk home in the rain. But when I eased the rear wheel out of the "track", the missing stopped. Got the rear back in the "track" and it started cutting out again. It finally dawned on me that the rear tire was hydroplaning and the traction control was doing it's job. Ain't technology something?
