Spyderpops bump/skid pad

Received the bump/skid plate from Spyderpops for My ST yesterday and installed it. Easy install after you figured out the mounting and such.
Very well build being thicker much better design and larger to cover much more area than the OEM one.
A must upgrade to any Spyder I say with the front being so low and open to getting damaged.
Harvey offers speedy service and a very nice product for sure.
Well done Harvey and thanks.

Congrats..!!

I was amazed when I took the old one off . I ryde aggressively on mountain roads and the oem skid was battered. But I also relocated the shocks and raised the front end a bit...glad you got it all installed with no problem...:2thumbs:

Thanks for the two good photos.

I agree...probably a must add to save the front end.

Was it easy to install ? Did you have to modify anything ? Did you run the Spyder up on ramps/how did you get under it ? How long did it take ?

I want one and wish I had someone to help me...my back, knees and shoulders are so bad....I dont know if I can handle getting down that low... My Dealer is new and I doubt they have even seen one of these.

Thanks again....keep the shiny side up ! :spyder2:

It was a straight forward install if your somewhat capable of doing your own work.
I drove the front up on my 2 car ramps and this gives you enough room to do the install.
If you are banged up as you say doing it this way may be a tad difficult for you.
All hardware is there but you do have to drill 2 holes out to 1/4 inch. Besides that it is just a few bolts and then screws. It took me about an hour and a half I think, I wasn't keeping track. Some of that time was studying the instructions to make sure you got the direction of the 4 brackets right in your mind.

Thank you. I am pretty handy and it sounds pretty straight forward....my problem will be laying on my back and getting back up again. I will try and find a (younger) friend to help.

Thaks for the advice and the photos !

Heh man...you got a Spyder....finding that friend cant be too much of a problem ! ;)

Mrwog/others:

So I bit the bullet and ordered my bumpskid and it came two days later ! :ohyea:

I am not sure how I will get it put on yet; me/friend/hire it out.

But I have a question:

Mine came with four fairly large plastic brackets............. this adds a little confusion as with all the posts I have read there has been NO comment about installing these brackets. ????? :yikes: In addition...the photos on the instructions that came with the BSkid look like an older model Spyder. The procedures are not numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. It also says for the ST-limited you may need to remove the entire front fascia.

So.....whatz up with the brackets. It would sure be nice here to have some clear photos of an install (here on this site) on the proper model Spyder. Did you install the brackets ? Were you able to get them in without any fascia removal ? I was just surprised as there has been no comment about them.

Thanks for any assistance !

I have the ST-limited 2014

Here is a photo of the brackets; 2 for left & 2 for the right...still taped together.
Anyone with ST-L get these use them ? Mr. Wog....your photo did not show these and no one else has mentioned them. ???................. After re-checking your post...I noticed you did mention the brackets. I was hoping anyone had photos showing them in place....the ones in the instruction are unclear to me.

They fit in a vertical position in the front section of the install. You do not have to take the nose off the Spyder. They will bolt right up in place and fit the body angle in this area.one on either side of the inner side of the front area.
I'll see if I can get a picture but maybe not since mine is installed and complete.
The bumps kid plate bolts to the flat bottom section and the curved erea bolts to the Spyder.

Thanks for the info. I am sure when I get it opened up it will make more sense. Thanks again !

Forgive me for a potentially dumb question; Is the bump stop necessary? I don't understand how that part of the body makes contact with the ground. Excuse the newb, I just got my Spyder yesterday.

Yes it is necessary, to prove it, run your hand under your new spyder, then in about 250 miles run it under there again and see how scratched up it gets without you even knowing it, then the real test comes in the parking lots, high crowned driveways or streets. It is cheap insurance for the front of your spyder plus it looks good.

when drilling for the bump skid... be very careful not to drill into the radiator or hoses... one tip I may offer... cut a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe about 1" longer than the drill bit when mounted in the drill and use it as a drilling depth stop...

You need to get your front shock [springs] right for your riding weight.

People tell you the check under the nose of the spyder to verify you have scratches. If you are close to 200 lbs, it is enough to get the front end low enough in certain conditions to scrape the bottom of the front end. The bump skid looks cool, but it doesn't prevent the scrapes. In fact, because of its added thickness, it scrapes even more.

Get the bump skid for looks, but sort out the front suspension first, my 2 cents.
