Spyderfest 2012- The Journey has begun!

Well guys I can't believe this is the 3rd Spyderfest in Cuba MO. By chance I decided to stop by and say hi to the MOgang 3 years ago when this thing first started and it was a great event then with a little over 100 or so folks. Last year it was a real event with vendors and organized rides and events and this year looks to be bigger and better than the two previous years.

Daytona Bikeweek was the start of the riding season for me but this is really more like a family reunion with a great ride thrown in the mix. I got up at 2:30am and got some work done before heading out at 3:30. I'll be meeting with a few more Spyderlovers in west Knoxville at 5am and then it's off to Cuba MO to see my buddies and to make new friends. The ride is just over 650 miles for me and that's a perfect days ride on the Spyder.

It's great to think that a little website like this and the love for the Can Am Spyder has brought folks from around the country to meet for this three day event. Many of us have started early as you can see in this video.

I'll be posting all my videos and pictures on this post so you can keep up with what's going on and share the good time with us if you couldn't make it this year. Check back daily for up to date action.

Here's a little video I got from the Mogang and friends that help put this great Spyder event on. :doorag:

Made it to Spyderfest

As planned I left the house at 3:30 am and met with Gardner, Kathy and Eddie. It was nice to see they were right on time. It was an 1.5 hour ride to meet them and I got to tell you it was a little cold. I had rain gear on but not my warm gear and that was a mistake. By time I got there I had the shivers pretty good and I had hoped that a hot cup of coffee was going to fix that but it didn't. We fueled up and them I put my neck warmer on and I figured it would warm up a bit by next fuel stop. It did warm up but not enough to matter so by time we made our next stop I was really cold. I broke out the heavy gear for the rest of the ride and I did finally get rid of the shivers but I had them for a couple of hundred miles.

Here's Kathy and Gardner

Eddie led the pack and we moved at a really nice clip. I've never ridden with these guys for any long distance and you never really know how it's going to go, it could be good and it could be painful if you get some really slow riders. These guys did great. :doorag:

Warm gear on and happy now

We made really good time getting there. We are about 180 miles from Cuba here and as you can see by the time stamp we still have plenty of daylight. That's why I like to leave early in the morning, can't sleep so I might as well ride.

About 80 miles from Cuba we ran into the FL group sunning themself by the side of the road. :doorag:

This was a 700 mile day for me and just over 600 for the other folks and I think it almost killed Kathy, she had never been on this long of a ride and it was a little too much for her. She was a really trooper and hung in there till the end.

When we pulled into Cuba I headed to the carwash to get some of the bugs and road grime off of my Spyder before checking into the hotel. I was really suprised to see so many Spyders out and about when we got there. When I got to Cowtown the place was pretty packed and the event hasn't even started yet. That's a good sign. :doorag:

I did a little wrenching on the bike and hung around and met some folks at Cowtown and then headed over to the rec hall for a nice dinner. There was a good group of vendors there and the Mogang staff along with reps from BRP and Rotax.

Thanks Lamont for the updates wish I was there but its pretty cold here, well we had one nice day but now rain for the next 2 weeks. Look forward to seeing and reading all the stuff going on there.

I swear someday I'll make this trip

Wishing you and all the best of Spyderfests, while I remain a slave to distance and employment.

Best,

BE CAREFULL

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING AND HERRING FROM YOU ON THE ACTIVITIES/ SPIKE AND KAY , GEORGETOWN S.C.

Lamont, I appreciate these continual reports because it's just like being there by the time you narrate the activities and post all the pics you take!! Thanks so much for bringing the rest of us along!! Nothing worse than getting cold!! Glad you ended up OK. It's so easy to underestimate just how cold you'll be on the Spyder in the early morning. I recently froze pretty good on the morning of my 3 Wheeled Motorcycle class. Luckily, it wasn't but a drop in the bucket to the distance you ride!! Glad you have arrived safely. I look forward to more narratives and pictures!!!!

Teddy & I wish we were there to, but this is as close as we can get, Thanks for postn

:agree: Couldn't have said it better. Thanks for bringing us along  Good times with great people :yes:Sounds like a party:yes:

Had to laugh Lamont---- we came in from the west and stopped at Cowtown to register before hitting the hotel. We walked by you, and you were in your element---- installing the foot pegs :). This is an amazing event my friend. (insert bowdown)

We had a great day and the place was really hopping, vendors everywhere and folks showing up from all over the country. I was able to do much walking around and talking to folks and didn't get to ride at all because I got roped into doing one install on some NBV's in the morning and I didn't get done till about 4:30 or so. I guess we'll have to wait for somebody else to report how the day went but I will say I did have some quality parking lot time getting to know some members here so that was really nice. Here's a few pics that I do have. :doorag:

Yep, it was a fabulous day. I went on Steve Mac's Rock ride and it was tremendous! Hoping to find some good twisties to test my new Elka shocks, we found curve after curve after curve. Great ride, Steve, and all you hard work planning it really showed. Thanks.

Again, thanks so much for sharing

Funny, Teddy and I even recognized folks we've met at last years SpyderFest and you posted a great pic of fellow Cincy Spyder Ryder Jesse with his tricked out RT-S:yes:

Stopped by to see all the Spyders in Cuba, lots of great looking bikes
