• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder vs. Deer???

Hit one of these the other week, got a mouthful as it was an Oh Sh*t moment...

Has anyone mounted the deer whistles on their Spyder? My insurance agent gave them to me for the car and Spyder. I mounted two of them to the Spyder as I have a lot of deer around my home which backs up to several thousand acres of wood land. It's a regular thing to come home to deer wondering across the road and drive. Seems since I mounted them the deer spook and run away as I approach. Since the insurance company has enough confidence in them to provide them then it's their dime if they don't work or work in reverse. I had a real experience in KY driving a Jeep CJ7 dodging a large herd of deer crossing the freeway.

The deer whistles bring the deer in close 'So you can give them a good ''WHACK'' :roflblack:

Scarry stuff about encounters with wildlife. I do not miss riding in Minnesota and Wisconsin where deer abound and are famous for coming out of nowhere at the last second. My very last ride on a motorcycle in WI--just before we moved to Alaska--I missed hitting a deer by a couple feet--so much for driving a country road for the last time. I can still see that deer coming out of the trees at the last second.

Unfortunatly, in AK we have moose all over the place. They usually don't dart out like a deer--but kind of blend into the background and you don't see them until its too late. Standing in the middle of the road is no problem--but coming out of the ditch, coming out of the brush at the last minute can be a problem.

I have had a couple close calls with the moose--but am still here to tell about it. The results of an accident with one, I am sure would not be good. Moose/Car accidents usually result in a totaled car for starters.

Ride as safe as you can and always be alert to the unexpected.

Close Calls Only

I have had two close calls in the past month but the good Lord was looking out for us.The first one was at Spyderfest when we were leading the Missouri River Wine Country ride on the way to Hermann and the other was last week down in Arkansas riding the back roads around Eureka Springs.
Someone was looking out for us!:2thumbs:

Very Interesting

This is really interesting. In Hawaii our concern sre pigs and goats. Pigs are really bad to hit with anything.

Studies show they are ineffective.

But like I tell my father in law who swears by them. If it makes you feel better, go for it.

It is also my understanding that the electronic whistles that are wired to the battery maybe, kind of, sort of work.

We have a wild hog problem here as well as the deer, and you definitely don't want to hit a hog. They are much closer to the ground and a more solid wall type target than a deer is. I have seen the entire front end of a Ford F-250 torn off after hitting a large boar. Even the left over parts in the road after they make contact with a tractor trailer can be dangerous. :yikes:
