There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Spyder trade-ins go to auction

When I stopped by East Coast Cycle Center in Bensalem,Pa I asked them where my 2014 ST-LTD trade in was. They told me that all their trade-ins are sent to auction instead of reselling them there. It is because of Covid, they said. Danger of passing on Covid in a used bike trade-in ? Seemed strange to me. All one has to do is wipe it down with sanitizer and its fine. I gave them a beautiful trade with only 6300 miles and in mint condition. Oh well.

My dealer told me up-front that they do NOT re-sell ANY trade-in vehicles at their dealership but send them all to an auctioneer.
They are basically the "finder" for the auction company.
He also told me this is why their trade-in offer is so low to the client...so the auction house can make a good profit on it and basically the dealer gets a quick finder fee.
This was in summer 2019, before COVID came up.
So... this past February, knowing they were going to give me just about nothing for my 2008 Gold Wing trike I put it on consignment at the local Yamaha dealer, who put it on CycleTrader, and got a REALLY nice price ... I was shocked at my take of it. Yamaha happy, I was happy... especially since I didn't have to personally deal with Joe-Public.

Because of Covid-19? Gimme a break.

As long as you got what you wanted from the trade-in, that's all that really matters, I suppose. But, I understand your disappointment.

Kind of makes you wonder exactly how long the Covid virus can remain viable on a surface.:dontknow:

Some dealers want nothing to do with used vehicles. Our local dealer is pretty much that way.

Other dealers, often with a business sense of what sells and what doesn’t are savvy enough to take in trades and resell them.

When you try to sell a trade in, most dealers have to give you some kind of a warranty with it, or have to go over it and see how the bike is as far as maintenance issues, right!! Well, every time I have a issue that I don't want to do, I have a hell of a time finding some one that wants to do it! They like selling them, but they hate working on them, and if you find some one, hang on because the bike is going to be down a while waiting for parts or to find the time to work on it!! It's crazy! Car dealerships do the same thing, take your trade in, and ship it to the action so they don't have to deal with the crap.

HI Joel, How do you Like your new Sea to Sky. I got mine on march and just put the Can Am Led Floorboard on it yesterday!! Have you done any mods on it yet and are you planning to? Congrats on your new bike!

That COVID 19 thing is a bunch of BS... Vehicle dealers don't make big money on the sale of NEW units
the money is made on the buying and selling of the used ones , but the nice profit money comes out of the
service department.

I traded my 2012 RSS in for my 2016 F3T to Imotorsports. I saw it on their site for sale 3 weeks later for only $995 more than they allowed me for it. I figure the down time was for them to do a go over and change fluids. Considering the sell price was less than $1k more than they allowed me for it, it really seemed pretty fair. I bought it for $8k, they allowed me $9k 6 months later, and had it for sale at $9995 3 weeks later. Great bike, that I wish I had back again. Considering I bought the F3T for $5k below sticker, it was clear to me they make money on the volume that they sell, and not off just one unit.

Its really sad that they dont resell trade-ins. There is a big market for used cycles and they can make money on them. What is their real reason for not taking them ?

As a long time dealer of a premium brand you are 100% correct. The issue with most dealers as used units come from the dealerships cash which can be limited as new units are financed thru a floor plan program. As a new unit is sold, the floor plan on that vehicle has to be paid off generally within a day or so. There are Floor Plan checkers that, again typically, show up un announced, if a unit is not there and not paid off............

There is one heck of a lot more to it, but the above covers the basics.

A dealer to maintain a large stock of used inventory either has a large line of credit in order to properly address that particular line of business or very deep pockets.

I spoke to one of the Canam dealers and they said they send them to auction because they get paid for the trade-in right away and don't have to sell the used bike to get all the money from the trade-in. He also said that sometimes if they give less on the trade-in from the customer, they can actually make money at the auction.
