Spyder Still at Coleman's

Well it has been over two weeks now since I took my Spyder to Coleman because of the gas smell. I called Colemans Friday and they said they had to wait for some tie downs from Can Am, but they came in Thursday.

What are tie downs and why do they have to be Can Am specific? Just curious.

So I said great, I should be able to pick the Spyder up this weekend. They said no, Friday and Saturday are reserved for "as you wait" service, so my Spyder won't be ready for another week.

Come on seriously! Another week. I just don't understand why this takes so long every time with them. I offered to come sit and wait but they said the work being done my Spyder does not qualify as an as you wait service. I just want my Spyder back in working order. :(

I'd be look'n for another dealer if you have other options in your area

nojokePoor dealer service is really hurting the Spyders imagenojokeand Frustrating the hell out of us that are addicted:banghead:

Unfortunately, Sean (I think) is the only BRP certified mechanic over there. Depending on his workload, your wait time may vary. Overall, I think they do quite well, and their repair shop, although expensive, does good work.

Hope you're riding soon.

:gaah:
I'm sorry to hear that you've been separated from your Spyder for this long...
Do you have a "kicking tree" in your backyard?
Mooneych says that their tech does good work, so let's hold out the hope that when you get your Ryde back it'll be perfect once again!

Time to search out another dealer, it sounds like...even if you have to travel 100 miles. Nothing teaches an arrogant dealer manners better than the loss of business. Be sure to tell the business owner, not his flunkies, why (after you get your Spyder back).

Yes, Sean is the only Can Am mechanic over there. But when I dropped it off, I was told there two Spyder ahead of me and it would be a week and a half, then it was two weeks, now it is three weeks. I just don't understand the delays.

There is no way I would let it set another week. Go get, drive it, see if you still have a gas smell and if you do find another dealer. It could be as simple as a bad gas cap.
Stop :banghead: nojoke

I think I would have to start looking for another dealer. Tell them only after you get the Spyder back. ( as somebody said)
A couple red flags ( to me), a couple Spyders ahead, okay but if it takes over a week per Spyder, what are they doing to it ?
The other is the " tie down" thing. Zipties are all over the place I doubt BP even lists them. I do know some performance cars had a kind of restrain strap on the engine. Maybe some of the Good Guys on here could tell if the Spyder has such a object.
Good Luck

:agree: long enough is too long in this case...

ZIP TIES ???

Is this " zip tie " actually the metal "oteker" ( probably mis-spelled) clamp...if they don't have that I don't think they can just go to NAPA and buy some.....I'm not defending the dealer I absolutely would not be caught doing that !!!!!.....mike.....good luck...I feel you're pain

The tie for the canister is a standard 14" zip-tie, available anywhere or they could use a couple of shorter ones. Every tech I know has them in his/her toolbox. Your dealer is feeding you road apples, IMO.

I don't know what the oteker is but I think she may not have the name of the part they are waiting for wrong. If not like the others said get the Spyder back and go find another service department.

The guy said they had to wait for the new tie downs from BRP, really that is all I know. They are in now, but they are too busy to install them. I am frustrated. I want my Spyder back, it was a great weekend for a ride and I sat at home when my husband went out on his bike. :gaah:

Opinion inserted: After what things I have heard from you, I would discontinue the use of this facility if I were you, however, I cannot make that decision for you.

You have run into another arrogant dealer that feels they can take your :spyder2: in and sit on it for weeks before completing promised service. I also advise finding a diffdrent dealer to service your :spyder2:. Once you get the bike back, do notify the manager at the dealer that you are going elsewhere, and why.

Hey Everyone,

I have no affiliation with this dealer, but I've spent enough time down there to be on a first-name basis with quite a few of those folks.

What time of the year is it? Time for all the fair-weather riders to take their toys to the shop and get ready for riding season! As of 5 minutes ago, the wait time for a technician to even look at your bike is almost 2 weeks. If you add troubleshooting, distractions and shipping from BRP (where else would the part come from?), you could be out of business for a while. I have had to suffer through this as well, and it's not fun. Even though I remind them that my bike is my daily commuter (not a toy), the wait can sometimes be long.

Sometimes even the mechanic has to go to BRP school for additional courses.

It takes a long time to boot-up a Spyder mechanic, and I assure you that Sean knows his stuff.

OOPS, my soapbox rental has expired...

I've put a call in to see if I can help out. Just my $.02

Cheers!

Chris

My husband called this morning and he was told that Sean was finishing up on another Spyder. As soon as he is done with that one, he will start working on mine. Hopefully I will get it back in a day or two.

I am finding it sad that my husband had to bail me out. But I will leave that where it is.

I have seen you riding around, I remember your plate. Thank you for trying to help. I am just frustrated, no sooner did I get it out, it was taken. I love my Spyder and I love riding it.
