Spyder stalls when cold

My Spyder has been at the dealer for the last week and a half to fix the stalling when its cold
problem. I picked it up today and it stalled twice before I got out of the lot. Dealer said that they had no idea what was wrong with it because it had not thrown any codes. Has anyone had this problem and if so what was the fix? Please help someone it runs fine once it's warmed up, but I'm worried about driving to SpyderFest not knowing whether it could turn into something bigger.

Sad! Another idiot tech that doesn't understand that the computer doesn't tell them everything. These guys give me a rash!

There are lots of possibilities, but the first place I would look is at the spark plugs and the plug wires. A plug that is fouled or misfires (often due to a bad wire) can cause cold operation stalling. There are many other possibilities, however, including a bad clutch or bad APPTS sensor. Some are purely mechanical in nature, and and others will not show on the computer until tested. Have the dealer call BRP dealer tech support for assistance. Lord knows they could use some!

I completely agree with Nancystoy. There are a lot of Techs today that are just plain idiots. They are incapable of independent thought. All they can do is what the computer tells them to do. If the computer doesn't say anything then. They don't do anything because there must be nothing wrong. Even though the problem is SCREAMING at them right in front of there eyes!

I would recommend bringing your Spyder to another dealer that has an actual mechanic. You know, the guys that remember that an internal combustion engine needs spark, air, and fuel to run, and will approach the problem with that in mind.

Thanks guys,
The plugs and wires were installed in December with Cowtowns
Performance kit but Ill check them. Not looking forward to that front
plug though. As far as the dealer, it wont be going back to them.
In addition to the stalling problem when I picked it up one of the
headlights wasnt working. They said they knew but didnt know
what to do to fix it because it was Hid. When I took it apart
i found that they had left the bulb unplugged. Give me a break.

I just had the same thing, it would stall soon after starting while idling to warm up. I would repeat sevaral times untill the engine was warm but it may even stall after I took it for drive and at the frist stop I made. I was worse when I had fuel with alcohal in it, but it still did it with Pacific 66 gas, just not as bad.

The dealer checked it out and found it was related to a bad 02 sensor and kinked breather tube, I think it was on the left side. Been running fine since then but then the weather warmed up since then so hard to say for sure until the weather gets cold again.

Also check the couple of vacuum lines, I had one with a crack in it which caused a stalling problem.

Just wanted to give a update on the stalling problem. During SpyderFest the bike went into LimpHome and the BRP techs took a look at it and changed the purge valve and the O2 sensor. Bike seems to run smoother and has not stalled since.

I had the same problem with the same solution.
