There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Spyder RT a "Toy" ?

Jeriatric

Thinks out loud
A toy is defined as something a child plays with. Typically a model or miniature replica of something. Think Big Wheel.

A Spyder RT is supposed to be a high end touring motorcycle. One that should confidently and comfortably allow you to enjoy traveling great distances. Without having to worry whether it will get you there and back.

Toy or tourer?
The answer may come down to how one intends to use their RT.

Owning another toy never crossed my mind. Owning a quality touring motorcycle was my primary focus.

To date. It has not let me down.

Tho, I do not travel with the degree of confidence I had hoped for when making the investment.

I do enjoy those daily rides to pick up the mail, and run errands in nearby Eagle River. Most of the time they turn into 50 to 100 mile excursions. Prior to retiring from my day jobs, the :spyder2: was my daily commute into Anchorage. (40 miles round trip). The commute was from start to finish of season, and most summers, I would only fire up the car a couple times. Weekends are now used for the longer rydes--usually both Saturday and Sunday. We are also re-joining our MC club for their Thursday 100 mile or so rides. Looks like another 20,000+ mile year coming up for at least one of my :ani29:'s.

Not sure where I fall into the mix--but it looks like toy with a lot of practical use added.

I have no problem with either 'Toy' or 'Tourer'. It's easily both for many riders.

I could see how a toy would be associated with children because they like to play. As we grow older, it is sometime a challenge to continue to play, but we certainly can, if we want. I'm fine with thinking of my Spyder under both names.

You didn't read the second defition by Merriam-Webster:

something that an adult buys or uses for enjoyment or entertainment

That sums up my Spyder for me. I'm an adult and have all sorts of toys.

For me it is a Toy and a Touring Bike.

Do i need it? No

Do I Like it? Yes

Am i comfortable taking it on long trips? Yes

What more do i need to know? Nothing

Both Names Apply

I think the prevailing attitude/logic in the northern states is more towards calling bikes & trikes toys as they are strictly seasonal use machines (for the most part). This might be less so in the south where they can be ridden pretty much all year. Still motorcycles of any kind only represent a tiny fraction of the traffic out on the roads and this is primarily why we either aren't seen or get any respect. Bottom of the totem pole so-to-speak.

For me they are toys. Its a nonessential pleasure toy. My wife calls it a hobby.

Well..!!

mine is a cure..!!

It makes me happy when I'm sad
It calms me down whenI'm worried
It clears my mind when it's cluttered
It soothes my anger when I'm riled
It's my best friend when I'm alone

And when with my wife it makes me lover her even more

So not a toy nor a tourer or even a tool to me...:ohyea:

Only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. :)

For us, they are the 3rd and 4th vehicles and would be the first to go during financial hardship. But I fully intend to use mine as my primary vehicle when the roads are dry and temp is high enough.

I really can't see what difference it makes unless you somehow are bothered by the word toy.
A toy is an unnecessary thing used during leisure time to provide entertainment.

Well Roger by your definition the Spyder cannot be a toy.
Anyone who owns one knows deep down that they can never again be
"unnecessary":roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

The Spyder provides so much for the soul that it is totally necessary
and it is much more than a mere "tourer"

:agree: I am proud of my "toys": and proud to show them off. I feel even better about them when I can ride them across country. Can you spell B-O-N-U-S?

With all of the snow-shovelling to be done; is this the best that we can come up with? :bdh: :gaah:
 Sorry... Bad morning here...
