Spyder RS with the Touring Package

Questions

Trying to get some opionons on this. I love the looks of the RS but the RT seems to be more relaxed and comfortable. What I am wanting to know if there is anyone out here has an RS with the Touring package and if the comfort seat and handlebar risers make it more comfortable. Please Advise.:chat:

Yes. :2thumbs:

However. Comfort for one is not the same for another. Just like your favorite pair of jeans, yet so many others that look the same, made buy the same company in the same size... Still are not that comfy.

I am just trying to be polite. The Handlebars are worth every penny. But here is a little more info than maybe you wanted... And is only my $.02 worth, give or take a penny...

My wife and I have spent the past three months setting up our RS-S to be more comfortable. And are failing for her needs. I am in love and it is dialed in for me. But I am a loving husband that knows better. And my wife must be comfortable or this is not going to work.

After all this is said and done I can say in our situation the following...

Just buy the RT. It will cost many folks to much money to get the RS to have an RT ryde. Buying the RT will save a lot of hours modifying and testing to get the items best suited for your needs.

We are going to sell our 2011 RSS shortly or trade it in on another RT-S. My wife has a disability and no matter what we do to the RS-S I cannot get the comfort level she needs, that every model of the RT already has from the factory. :gaah: Originally we planned to get another RT this fall, but we just purchased a new home and see that we cannot afford to do that for a few years as a result of the home purchase (Of which we are only half moved to at this point).

Anyway, good luck with your hunt! Thousands of folks are more than happy with their adapted RS's :spyder2::yes:

:welcome: I have a 2009 SE-5 (RS) and spent about 12-14 grand over and above the price I paid for the Spyder trying to make it into an RT and for all I did I never came close . If you want a touring Spyder get an RT- RTS from the get go ! Lots of deals on 2010 Models although the 2011 RTs have a few improvements over the 2010 . What ever you get I would get the B.E.S.T.warranty as these high tech machine have the potential to be very pricey to repair down the road.

:agree: with the two above posts. I've had my RT-S since last August and it is, BY FAR, the most comfortable touring machine I've ever owned (having gone through three Goldwings and an Ultra Classic). Get the :spyder2: RT-S and you'll never regret it.

I have a 2008 GS (now known as RS). I have the handle bar risers from ESI, A Russell Day Long seat and highway floorboards. I have a bikersfriend seat bag that allows me to lean on it like a back rest and a Throttlemeister (friction throttle lock). I also have the MadStad 20" adjustable windshield. These things along with all the ESI lights I have are what made my Spyder all mine. It is now very comfortable for me and I have toured all over the US and to Quebec with my spyder. I love it and feel it is dialed in for me. It is all in what you are willing to do and willing to spend and what you find makes you comfortable. I have ridden the RT and while it is a nice Spyder, I prefer my GS style and the sportier look. To each his own. Enjoy, regardless of what you decide.

Check out my Alaska Album for a GS and RS both decked out for touring. The mods made the machine more comfortable--but I like my RTS better for the long haul. I traded the GS for the RTS. Spouse still rides the RS. I ended up with Corbin seats on my two Spyders and we used the comfort seat on the RS. Lots of opinions on seats--everyone has their own ideas.

:agree: with above posts, I have test ridden RS's with $10K plus of mods for comfort and it still doesn't match the RT ride, especially for the passenger.. Like someone said, there are serious deals on new 2010 models now if you shop around. Whichever one you get - look into the extended BEST warranty for long term security..

:welcome: I have the RT-S. Its great for touring. Like the post said each to their on. That said weigh your options. How much after market products are you willing to spent to get the :spyder2: to be touring ready.

The deciding part is the toughest; ain't it? ;) I guess that if you like the styling of the RS better than the RT you'll need to decide if it'll be comfy enough for whatever rides you undertake.
Alternately; how much money are you willing to spend to try and bring the RS's comfort level up to where you want it?
(My head hurts now... :gaah:)

You can get pretty close Brp comfort seat, some good handlebar risers, and some saddlebags, and highway pegs turn your ipod on and you are good to go.

Just buy one of each and you'll be all set------:2thumbs:

I consider the GS/RS a sport/tour that can be quite comfortable for touring with the right setup. ESI risers, Corbin seat, Backrest, Throttlemeister, Highway pegs, GPS, CHAD windshield are some must-have items for touring IMO.

I like being able to ride sport around town and switch to touring--- wouldn't have it any other way......

BUT -- if I was doing a lot of touring --- especially 2-up ---- the RTS would be the way to go ----- I just wouldn't plan on doing any 'huligan' riding on one.....

Must agree about comfort

I spent almost 4K trying to get my RS comfortable for me. The machine was terrific, but I could not get it to where it felt right.

I installed RSCI floor boards, and handbrake. Throttle Meister, Handle bar risers (tried two different brands), the comfort seat, adjustable windscreen, extra bags, and on and on.

I traded it for an RT, and feel like the position is perfect for me. Others prefer the handling and sportiness of the RS, but I should have spent the extra money to start with. I kept telling myself "if I add this to the RS it will be perfect for me."

I loved the RS, but coming from a Honda 650 scooter, I guess the position change was too drastic for me.

Either way the RS, or RT both are fun machines to ride.

I had both and the RTS is the right machine for me. The RS is fun to drive but the position was not comfortable for me for any distance. My long legs didn't like being bent. I would recommend tat you test drive both and then decide. Good luck.

Before :f_spider: days I had never owned a motorcycle or driven one. I started out by wanting the RS-S . I took out the :spyder:RT for a test ride and by the end I bought an RT-S SE5. I find the for me the seating position fits my body better as I have neck problems. At first my wife was not interested in :f_spider:riding and then when I started taliking about the wanting the Rs-S :f_spider: she came with me to look at them and became a :f_spider: rider. That was the other reason for not buying the :f_spider:RS-S as she was not comfortable sitting as a passenger, but on the RT she was very comfortable so the :f_spider:RTS is comfortable for us both to ride on.

Take an RT for a test ride and see what you think. Test riding is a lot of fun too.:D

IMO the RS is a very good and dependable machine for both sport and touring rydes; in the Guts and Glory Rally (http://www.gutsandgloryrally.com/) there are so far 3 RS's and 1 RT sing-up.

:agree: These are the same thoughts I have on the 2 models, but I am keeping my 2009 even more sport than touring.

solo and 2 up

Love my 08 GS. Yes, you will need to add some mods to make the RS tour comfortable but when you are done you'll have 2 in 1. I ride solo most of the time and remove the saddel bags, touring windshield, extended passenger foot pegs etc. Time to tour -outfit it for 2 and load up!

We are planning on meeting the small army of Spyders this weekend (My B'day weekend) and go to the BRP event in Tacoma. Then ryde everything possible and see the colors live and in person.

At this moment. I like the Red, White or Blue. But am leaning towards the Blue as I am worried the Red will become bland to us, and the white might be just to much white. We loved the white RSS... Just want to see it in person before we decide... :chat:

You can make the RS plenty comfortable for any size ride...

I have the comfort seat and the ESI handlebar risers...they make a huge difference...

If you add some side bags and maybe a rear hard bag as well, you'll have more than enough luggage space for wherever you want to go.

The RS is sportier...quicker...no question...the RT gives you the comfort from the get-go.

There are two options and I'm sure there'll be more some day soon...

If I had to do it again, I'd still go with the RS...
