• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder RS Seat/Steering Conversion

I have the 1" BRP riser and the 4" ESI risers that, along with my Corbin seat with backrest it's pretty darn close to what the RT felt like to me.

Very cool. Thank you! I guess that's what I'm going to have to do, then, if I get a used RS model.

I have a call into the local dealer in Wilmington, Illinois to see if he can finance the RT for me. I told him I can put $6,000 Cash down on it, but I still don't think they'll approve me. Things have been pretty crumby over the past year or so! Anyway, I'll find out soon.

If that isn't an option, then I'll try to find an RS, since most people think that I can make it almost just as comfortable as the RT.

Thanks again for the responses. You guys are great!

I think one issue that isn't being addressed here is what kind of riding are you planning on doing?

If most of your riding is short rides (under 300 miles) - then I doubt a touring bike is really needed.

I have the Corbin and NMN 4" risers and could not be happier. I typically go for short rides of 200-300 miles, but have also done 400-500 in a day with no problems at all.

Without the NMN risers, Corbin Seat and ThrottleMeister - anything over 150-200 miles was pretty painful. I also have the removable BRP bags that are great for touring--- and snap off in seconds if I'm wanting to thrash around town.

While the RT is really slick --- I think the RS or GS or whatever they're calling them now are sportier for short rides, thrashing the twisties, etc....

I really do love the looks and features on the RT --- but personally would stick with the RS/GS line and make some basic mods to assist with comfort.

Regardless of which model you get---- getting a dealer that has a good reputation and good service technicians is of utmost importance.

Yep - it's all about customizing. now I think Derwin, you'd have no problem finding a used Spyder - you won't pay nearly as much as a new one or an RT. Get one of those and then customize as you go. This way you'll be on one sooner. If you wait till you have enough cashola for the RT years from now - you'll be loosing out on alot of riding seasons!

:agree:

I have a 2009 SM5 with the 4in. risers that actually tilt back and up installed at the dealer. I also put in a Utopia backrest and Highway pegs. I am 6'1'' tall and I am sitting upright. Works great for me. Try to find someone that has risers and see if that will work for you.
I have the same set-up. Love the back rest, but, I find that the stock seat seems to kind of tilt you forward, away from the back rest. Have you noticed that?
