• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Recall!

Sure doesn't sound like this is a sensor-only issue.

You're right. Sounds like they're putting a patch in the software to counter the jumbled signals. That should fix it, too. I still think that the GPS sensor input into steering is unnecessary. Maybe they're just eliminating it from the mix.

.

I didn't sense a program issue, I felt physical resistance. Even more than that, it locked for split second while coming out of a sweeping turn.

Can't wait to hear from my dealer.

If this actually is a 'software glitch' , how come it doesn't affect ALL Spyders?

Hmmmmmm:dontknow:

IMO they must subtract the sensitivity of the GPS and/or DPS (1 or 2 lines of code).

Agreed, kind of. Remember my other "Sensors..." thread. My original shop manual listed the GPS as direct input to the DPS/steering. A later manual revision did not. "Hmmmm...", says ataDude.

That, to me, doesn't seem like a typo. It had to be intentionally removed... it was in the middle of the list of 5-6 things... at least that's my convoluted thoughts on this.

However, that doesn't explain why 2009 models are still in the recall list, either.

Interesting point. We do know that some 2009 models had the old GPS don't we?

I don't think it's that the newer ones have different software - because the recall sounds like they had to write the code and test it.

Glad they are doing something about it. I'll wait to my extra tire comes in and then go get it done.

Agreed. We can speculate and speculate... won't change anything... but it sure is fun! :D

"Bombardier is recalling 9,932 model year 2008-2009 Can-Am Spyder Roadsters..."

So...does 9,932 really mean 11,288? :joke:

:clap::roflblack::clap::roflblack::clap:

It also states that the 9932 are only the ones in the US - as obviously this recall is only in the US (NHTSA is US).

So I wonder what (if anything) BRP is going to do for the rest of the world?

Ha!

Are you kidding, Scotty?

I once tried to buy two brand new Hindle exhausts for $44, figuring BRP would just add on $1,356 anyhow.

Of course, that price was before the 10% (or 1,366%) discount...

It's about time is all I can say. Mine will be going into the shop sometime in mid to late July anyway for it's 15K service, rear tire change, and I guess this recall issue as well. I have been having difficulty with my steering for about 6 1/2 months now.

I'm not confident that this will really address any of the steering issues. It sounds like an end run to avoid riders noticing them to me. The root cause(s) will still remain...like bad signals on the CANBUS. It may reduce the symptoms, but it doesn't sound like a cure.

The Chinese did it!..like lead in kid's paint or crap in powered milk, or whatever else they do to kill us! :joke:

Where is the list of VIN numbers affected?

As far as a fix...if they have a recall, it HAS to fix the problem...otherwise, they're gonna get their pants sued off!

They don't actually list the VIN's - only the models.... in here:

You are correct that now that this is all on paper from the NHTSA - it legally means they are aware of the problem. One must certainly question some of the accidents (the guy that got really banged up and the unfortunate death of the woman from Texas).

This is a good example of a system (NHTSA reporting) that works well. Many of us with steering problems took the time to report them - and it's very satisfying to see something being done! I know I filed mine with both the US and Canadian officials. Steering failure is too serious an issue to let slip by!

I'm just wondering how long it's going to take to notify everyone. Based on how long it takes an owner's card I,m not going to hold my breath.:gaah:
