• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Recall June 11 2009

I called yesterday, but was on hold forever...so I went for a ride instead.
Never had any issues and mine was listed.
I have almost 20k

Someone should (tactfully) make sure that the family of the woman that died on her Spyder in Texas is aware of this recall. They should have a full investigation as there is obviously a good chance this was a contributing factor to her crash.

I'm just thrilled to see a government system that actually works. 14 of us filed various reports about our steering problems - a few of us after having accidents. I filed mine with both the US and Canadian authorities. I'm fortunate to have never had an accident due to the power steering problem - but it sure scared me for a long time!

Since I got the new GPS angle gear sensor thingy my steering seems fine - but this software update should help ease my worries even more!

Steering Issues

If anyone experiences what they think is a problem with their steering on their Spyder it seems reasonable that you don't continue riding it. If you think yours has a problem, reporting it as mentioned above is extremely important. Go one more step and be sure BRP knows first.

Liability insurance for manufacturers such as BRP is extremely expensive. The general aviation industry lost a single engine aircraft manufacturer back in the mid 1980 when Cessna finally gave it up due to the cost of liability coverage. It wasn't until 1999 that some of the liability laws changesd which gave Cessna the opportunity to manufacture single engine airplanes again. The same thing can happen to BRP if we don't communicate with them about their product. If you get no joy from your dealer keep moving up the ladder until you find someone who listens.

Considering how unique the Spyder is and how much effort went into getting it DOT approved we all need to do what we can to protect it and give feedback to BRP to give them a chance to correct problems. Let's not spoil one of the most unique opportunities for fun by ignoring potential problems and not relaying information to the folks that can help.
