Nice job Doc
Since a trailer hitch is required to support the rack, any idea how us F3S owners can join in on your idea?

I'm sure that someone will come up with the F3 option for a hitch. I thought Lamonster had fabricated one for his not long ago. It shouldn't take long for them to be available.

Temperature going to the rack from the exhaust

A few people have expressed concern about having the exhaust so close to the rack. This video pretty much proves that will be a non-issue, especially under the most extreme circumstances.

if you look at his pictures closely, the 2 stock exhaust tips inside the end of the factory muffler actually direct the exhaust downward. I don't know if 2012 and older bikes are this way and certainly not the aftermarket stuff. You put a 2 brothers exhaust in front of that rack and I bet you'll see a whole different story.

That is a very good point, but I actually would think that it would run cooler with less back pressure. Also, on these cat bypasses, they should run cooler since they are not burning up the unburnt fuel.
Maybe someone has a non-stock exhaust and a infrared thermometer and can give a report on this. That plate is pretty heavy gauge and it would take an acetylene torch flame to go up to 400 degrees on the other side of it, which can cause cotton to begin to burn. We may end up selling a large plate with heat sinks on it. Probably a double plate with an air gap angled slightly to allow air to flow through. That is a couple of possibilities!

What comes with the rack

The exhaust plate, 2 self taping screws for it, 4 U bolts, 4 base plates for them, and their locking nuts, and the hitch ball hole adaptor plate. If you are going to use the hitch ball hole to mount the rack, you will need a 3/4" bolt of the correct length, a flat washer (for added strength), a lock washer, and a 3/4" nut. Cost is about $2.50 at Rural King. The reason we do not include the bolt and hardware is that different applications will require a different length, and beyond the 2 1/2" bolt length, they only thread it part of the way. If it is too long it will need shimmed or not tighten up correctly. If too short, it won't reach far enough. Also included will be a complete set of instructions and an installation DVD.

Nice looking.
Maybe you could fab something for the F3.

Thanks

If I had one to make some measurements with, I sure could. I have a few ideas. Tell me this, do they have the hollow rear axle bolt for a through bolt like the RT & RS? And if not, a modular clamp-on configuration onto the swing arm tubing would work. Anybody in central Indiana with an F3 want to stop by the shop for 4-5 hours? Probably would get you a rack at cost as soon as they were manufactured. In fact, since they will need a testing phase, any testers out there want to be involved in some product development?

Yes hollow rear axle just like the RT.
I'd be glad to send you any picture that you think might Help.
I still have my Pakit Rak from my RT but need a hitch and I loved my bag. A little to far from Az but if I lived closer I'd be there tomorrow.
Any other way I can Help just let me know.

Larry

Yeah, that is going to be a tough install. The plate would have to be moved and you have to wire a light to illuminate it. When/if you get a rack we might be able to do something then.

Hitch bolt hole option

For those of you that are planning on mounting the rack using the hitch bolt hole but don't want to purchase the tools to remove and install it, I am in the process of creating a kit to accomplish that. The way it will work is like this:

1. On the adaptor plate I will place small pieces of metal and weld it. Since the 3/4" bolt will have the same head, it will work on every single bolt. This will secure the bolt from the top and keep it from turning either way. No tool needed on the top.
2. On the nut on the bottom, I will take some round steel stock that will allow the nut to fix snugly. This will then be welded in place. At the other end of the round stock, a hole can be drilled to allow a bar to be slipped into place to tighten and loosen.
3. I also may include a hole in the nut end just below the nut so that it can be turned over and used to remove the U-bolt nuts. I can attach a deep well 9/16" socket by welding it in place. After removing the nut, you would turn it over, insert your torque bar and spin the nuts off or on.

Some of you wrench heads make recognize this as a modified T handle tool. All you would need to carry would be a 12" long, 3/8" bar to remove and install your rack!!

A few action shots!

Rack installation DVD's are done and ready to be added to the orders! I love that Litescribe burning! Looks so professional! No labels to unstick and jam in your machine. Image is burnt right into the DVD.

Does the CD contain the full version of the background music of your demonstration video? :roflblack::roflblack:
