• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

This may have been posted before, and if it has, then please disregard!

Just for fun, I searched for the patent to the CanAm Spyder, and found it at this link....

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/20070256882.pdf

I did this just for kicks. It was fun to read through the patent. I guess I've been bored lately! lol

BP has other patents on the Spyder listed as well, and you can find them at the website freepatentsonline.com and download the pdf for free.

I just thought some of you guys might like to see this, if you haven't already.

I know.... I've got to get a hobby!

Well, it has something to do with a weird bike with 2 wheels in the front and one in the back.

Sounds interesting, but I don't think there's much of a market for it! :roflblack:

Patents of the Spyder

What was patented is the way the Can Am Spyder is designed/built, not what is being build. This 3 wheeled idea dates back the before 1910.

This type of patent is called a "Design Patent" which covers the "shape" of an object if you will.

It is not a "Utility Patent" which would be the type of patent that would cover the 3 wheeled reverse trike concept as a new to the world idea.

As said 3 wheel trikes reverse or not have been around a long time.

So it is not a patent on the basic 3 wheeled reverse trike concept, but rather a patent on the design items that make a Spyder look like a Spyder in shape and form.

Yes. Of course. In case you guys missed it, I was being sarcastic in my second post. I guess sarcasm must be difficult to read in a post. Hey, Lamont... We need a sarcasm smiley! lol

I posted the patent because I found it interesting to look at and to read, and thought maybe others would find it interesting also. (note: not being sarcastic)

I'm just getting waaaaay too bored.

I need my own Spyder before I go completely nuts!

While waiting, it seems I'm trying to find anything to just "dream" about owning a Spyder. I guess it's kind of like how guys back in WWII would look at pin up girls and dream about one day having one for themselves! lol

World War II Pin-Up Girl or the Spyder RT . . .

I don't know which one I dream about more on a daily basis! :(

Hey Spyderlovers!! Just a note on the above U.S. Patent application. When you pull this up on the FreePatentsOnline website you are actually pulling up the published U.S. Patent application. This application is for a "Utility" patent not a design. This application went abandoned which means it is not a patent. There were two other applications filed from the above U.S. Patent application. One of the applications went abandoned and the other has not been examined yet. Oh did I mention I work as an Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office....
