Spyder Owners Event 2013

What to do; what to do? I just got my RTS in August and I've never been to any Spyder event before. I'm going to my first Spyderfest in April. I have also been planning a summer ryde to Utah to sightsee the many national parks there. I would be mostly tent camping to keep expenses down. I love the west and was really interested in seeing areas I'd never been to.

Now there's all this talk here about the owners' event in NC and I am thinking maybe that's how I should spend my summer vacation instead of Utah. I used to live in the Atlanta area and have been to the GSM NP a few times, though I've never explored it thoroughly. I have friends in Ga I could visit. But ryding there would be a lot of miles just to get there without so much to see on the way (compared with ryding through Co to and from Utah.

But I am thinking I could go early to do some sightseeing in GSM NP, visit friends in Ga, go to Lamont's BBQ, and, funds permitting, go up to Va and DC for sightseeing before the long ryde home to Kans.

So what should I do? I know I'll enjoy the social aspect of the owners' event and I've figured out where I can camp to keep expenses down (even in DC!), but I just don't know how to make a decision.

HELP!

If it were ME, I'd go see the National Parks while they are still open. What with Congress not passing budgets, there is a chance that the National Parks system may have to make some significant cut backs. See them while you can. Owner's events happen each year. Besides, you are going to Spyderfest. From some perspectives, it might be viewed as a more desireable event as there are more vendors plus with the new Pitbull sponsorship, things could be pretty exciting. Just my $.02.

I don't know, but looking at the map it appears that Utah is on the way home from the owners event. I'd even skip D.C., but that just me because I work right outside of D.C. :yikes:

I live in Kansas. Utah is in the opposite direction from here, compared to the owner event in NC.

I'm registered for the event and have reservations at Comfort Inn right next to the venue if its at the same place as before. Don't know about Lamonster's BBQ, have not been there before but may stay the extra night to check it out. Sounds like a great time. Do I need to register for that separately? Where is the closest motel and is there a special rate for the BBQ participants? The reason I ask is I got a call at home today from "Iva" in FL informing me that I should call the Comfort Inn directly and rebook my room to get the special group rate for the event. I did this and talked with Terri. She cancelled the central booking reservation I had made and rebooked the same room saving me about $50. Thanks Iva! I don't know him. He just called outa the blue. Great group these Spyderlovers!

Patti and I have registered, we will be staying at the Maggie Valley Creekside Lodge. We will have to trailer though, we don't have enough time in our work schedule to ride it.

In another thread Harry Pottar and I are discussing meeting up and cruisin the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way down. We would love to have you ride down with us. Still workin out details, but the more the merrier and we are flexible. It would be very cool to have a :spyder: infestation on the parkway before the weekend festivities:doorag:

Hey Chad. Working on getting a group to ride up from Florida. Also looking to do the Dragon's Tail and Blue Ridge Parkway on the way to MV. We'll keep a watch out for you!
