• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Greetings to All, We have just purchased a 2011 Spyder RTS SE5 and are looking forward to many great rides. Our first big one will be the Lake Superior Circle Tour during the summer of 2014. Over the years, we've had several Goldwings and now the Spyder seems to open up a better riding life ahead.
We would appreciate feed back on several items. First, has anyone done the Lake Superior Circle Tour and if so any info would be helpful. Second, I've been reading about the overheating problems on some Spyders and don't know if any applies to the 2011 RTS SE5. Are there known factory recalls for this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help and I will contribute to the forum once I have some experience worth sharing.

Welcome! I'm pretty much still a newbie myself, having gotten my 2012 RT-S in May. Not *quite* to 3000 miles yet.

The only recalls about the overheating issue apply to the 2013's, so your 2011 should be okay.

theres no recall on the 2011 for heat issues..but make sure you do have all the latest updates for the throttle body as this is known issue. as for heat the only heat your going to feel really is from the right side from the radiator blowing hot air out recommend you check out spyderpops for the block-off plates.

:congrats:and :welcome: . . . how about some pictures? We'll be patiently to hear your future comments!

:welcome: and :congrats: on the new ryde.

RE: Lake Superior Circle Tour. I used to live in some places on the tour. Ashland, WI, Duluth, MN and French River, MN. Did the tour once--way back. Don't have a lot of current information--but maybe some general information. PM me if interested.

Welcome..!! Welcome..!!

to the roadster world and the best site for anything, and I do mean anything, spyder. Congrats on your new ryde, you are fine as far as heat issues and as far as the lake ryde..well I haven't got a clue but sounds fantastic...enjoy :ohyea:

:congrats: I ride a 2011 myself. With any new Spyder it pays to stop by a dealer and have them check for updates or service bulletins that are outstanding. Even if you have to pay them to hook it up to BUDS, it is worth it. The tech can give it a good once-over, too. I highly recommend the Willaim Murphy book Motorcycling Across Michigan. It has good circle tours for most of the Great Lakes, inculding Superior.
