SPYDER NEARLY DIED

NOT SURE IF I POSTED THIS ON THIS SIGHT. I DROVE MY 2013 ST SPYDER ABOUT 5 MILES FROM MY HOUSE. THE BIKE WAS NEARLY A MONTH OLD WITH A FEW HUNDRED MILES ON IT. IT WAS A 80 DEGREE DAY AND I PARKED IT FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS IN A PARKING LOT. WHEN I GOT ON THE BIKE AND TURNED THE KEY ON I NOTICED THE MONITOR WAS DIM AND MISSING SOME DISPLAY LINES HOROZONTALY. THE BIKE DID TURN OVER ENOUGH TO START BUT WHEN I DROVE THE 5 MILES BACK HOME THE MONITOR NEVER CHANGED. I GOT HOME SHUT THE BIKE DOWN, WAITED ABOUT A MINUTE AND RESTARTED. EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. CALLED MY DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BUT IF IT DOES IT AGAIN TO BRING IT IN. ANYONE EVER HAVE THIS HAPPEN OR HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. Was your Spyder parked with direct sunlight on the dash? This will happen and as soon as it cools down or is out of the direct sunlight it will come back. I had half of a monitor yesterday myself.

Happened to me once last fall. As SpyderAnne had mentioned the instrument cluster was in direct sunlight on a warm day. Bike started fine and as I drove the display came back. No issues since.

When you park pull that otherwise useless safety card out and pull it down over the instrument cluster to keep the sun off.

That happened to me and the bike went nuts. I pulled over and after about 10 mins of cooling down, all was fine. It was the direct sunlight/heat. The dash doesn't care for all the heat...might want to invent a cover for it. :yikes:

Safety card..!!

I have found this to be the best use of the safety card. I many times ryde home as the sun set to my back putting undo heat on the dash so pull down that card and cover the dash. Never had an issue but the needles are and embarassing shade of pink now...:roflblack:
