There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. spyder muffler

has anybody tried a harley type slip-on muffler on a spyder? i'm just thinking out loud, i don't know the pipe diameters , but it could be a cheap source for a good sounding exhaust. i'm just sayin...

Very cheap and sounds like canned Nascar. I made my own shorty tip and love it.

A glass packed exhaust tip of the design you like from an autoparts store, it needs a few simple mods and the use of the stock muffer slip joint and clamp. The slip joint will probably need a few wraps of metal tape for gap shim(in the muffler repair section of autoparts store, too). The internal hardware is stainless steel, the baffle caps and packing, also stainless material related to home use. Sink drains, shower decor, what ever you like...mine burns glass packing so I used stainless pot scrubbers. Once mounted with the clamp, safety wire the tip to the weld clip or it will launch off. Very tunable via the size baffle cap material and washers from nominal to fender, driling out the vent holes ,etc... Its' been fun to play with
To make one will probably cost about $50.00.

Homemade Muffler

When I purchased my spyder this spring ,the original owner 70 plus year old guy put a car glasspack on it. He used the stock pipe from the joint (curved) and then must of hacked the original muffler off right after the curve and before the bell of where the muffler starts. This is where he welded the glasspack on. It had 1400 miles on it when I bought it. I now have a carbon fiber HMF on it because I didn't like the look of a smaller diameter muffler and it was slightly longer. But now after hearing both ,I loved the car glasspack. It cackled like a v8 would cackle. It was like music to the ears. The HMF doesn't even come close to that sound. Now the reason I took it off was it was kinda unusual but tolerable, but not the look of the HMF. OK sound vs sight? I keep asking myself should I put the glasspack back on? I think I will. But before I do this I am going to a motorcycle scrap yard. I plan on taking a motorcycle muffler (Chrome) hack it and slide the chrome shell over the glasspack for a better look and a larger diameter. Use some fiberglass packing to keep the inner shell from rattling on the outer shell. Maybe tack weld it and cover that with a shield like the original one that covers the curve. I forgot to mention that it ran fine with the glasspack and no other modifications. I observed no dead spots, just a little cold blooded but a couple minute idle at start up took care of that. Since I got the HMF ,I am still tinkering with the Juice box and have a o2 modifier coming to cure the off idle dead spot on slow acceleration. I fogot to mention that he put a screw on chrome car tip on the glasspack. I don,t have any photos of the glasspack on the spyder. I could take one of it off the spyder if anyone was interested in what it looked like.

thanks dave for posting the video. thanks amtjim for sharing your technology. i have the pipe hushed up so i can hear the stereo. it's always nice to have the nascar option though.:roflblack::thumbup:

I have one arriving today from an individual reworking stock Spyder exhausts. He looks to be quite a talented sheetmetal/structures at a Boeing location. I'll know more once I can look it over and run it today! The shipping weight of the UPS info says 16 lbs. Here's one of his most recent rework.

Mine is very similar, the one in the video was just finished and is shorter/louder. Mine is neighborhood friendly, he made use of a decibel meter when sizing it.

Showed up yesterday, good timing for the burst of weather, had a fun day in the garage installing a new body panel and then the exhaust. Got to take it on a grocery run, bugs were ridiculous after the rain so I cut things short. Going to give it another test run later, I was thinking of blacking it out, but I'll wait for now since there is still alot of silver pieces on my Spyder. He is on Ebay, or contact here if interested [email protected]
