• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Life

Having come from the world of Goldwings where the normal lifespan seems to be between 200,000 and 400,000 miles, I was wondering if there is enough experience with Spyders yet to determine what the normal life of them will be? How many miles do high mileage Spyders have on them without major issues?

There is not enough data to venture a guess yet. One of our members (Doc) I know has over 100k but he has gone through 3 engines already, but we can't even include him in this conversation because he has a Turbo installed. Another member Spyderjockey has over 70k on his 08 GS. I'm not sure if any other members are even close yet to those numbers. Cyncyspyder I think is at 50k on his 2011 RT.

It will be safe to say no way will we get the amount of miles a Goldwing gets because our engines spin at a much higher RPM's and you you be a fool to think the Rotax can compare to the Goldwing lifespan.

I dunno... Rotax builds some pretty good engines.
'Wings have been around for almost as long as some of us have... (1975)
Spyders really have only hit the scene five year's ago. It'll take some time for a true reading of how they'll hold up to surface.
In the meantime; I'll try to help you out by logging as many miles as possible! :roflblack:

Time will surely tell... I hoping one day to show up somewhere with my fifteen or twenty year-old 2010 model and have folks say that it just needs a few more years and miles on it to be a real veteran of the highway.

A post today mentioned one spyder with 100,000 miles on it--the same engine I am guessing. That may be the current record. Like others have said--we are probably going to have to wait about 10 years to come up with a good record.

74k on mine bought feb 08

only problem so far was the front sproket fell off the engine.

bolt came off and so did the sproket.

i bought an 09 with 3500 miles a month ago and still drive the 08 if i am not going over 100 mjiles one way.

i really love my spyders

Don't forget the Spyder is a twin the Wing is a six cylinder so the wing has only 1/3 the wear to start with..Mike
