Spyder in the shop!

I read your post. I think you are in a worst situation than I am!:yikes: Lets hope BRP support gets the message that there are some Spyder members that are not happy with their service.
I feel your pain, see my post titled: no 1330 engines available.

RPM's ?

Glad you're getting it fixed under warranty, result

As for the 4000rpm, that's the 2nd time that's cropped up in a week from a BUDS report going to BRP. I'm strongly suspecting that someone at BRP HQ is linking lower RPM driving with clutch wear and insufficient oil pressure. As I stated in the other thread 4000rpm is the point the manual states max oil pressure is achieved.

I was on the bike last night and tried driving at no lower than 4000rpm and I don't think it's realistic. Staying above 3K is easily achievable but above 4K just feels wrong for everyday driving. If the clutch requires above 4K to operate correctly then I think it's mismatched to this engine. I have driven in the 2-3K range round town since I've had it and always felt fine.

However, I will now make an effort to stay above 3K, not that I feel there's any real certainty it will save me from an early clutch replacement bill.

As a new F3 T owner I have read about RPM related stuff but didn't see info on it in the owners manual - ?
What is the gospel for F3's and cruising RPM's? I try not to shift unless my RPM's are 3800 or greater?

Thanks in advance.

Answer from BRP is that it is not required to shift at any particular rpm range, so nothing to worry about.

I find the engine bogs down below 2500 rpm but will not always shift down itself. I'm shfting at around 3500rpm and staying above 3000rpm and find it feels happy there, but it's down to what feels nice for you.

I am pleased to see the many responses from BRP Care in this particular thread. Good information.:bowdown:

The 1330 bikes with SE-6 transmissions are fully locked-up at only 1800 rpm...
So worrying about when to shift? I would suggest finding better things to worry about! :D

Like what's gonna happen if the Missus finds out how much was spent on all of the farkles!! :lecturef_smilie: :yikes:

The only thing I worry about now is when I'm going to get my Spyder back and in what condition! It seems that the shop is relying on BRP to tell them what to do next instead looking for the issue themselves. I am hoping the service tech does not return it with extra bolts/parts!:dontknow:

Sounds like they are playing CYA, they don't want to make a decision that might cause them not to get reimbursed by BRP for the work they performed.
Had a ford ranger that was a lemon, dealership was working on it till ford factory rep came in, then all work stopped until he assessd the situation at every step and then told them how to proceed.
The dealers mechanic was just as frustrated at the wait as I was.:banghead::banghead:

Latest Update! Good News!!

Guess what it was??? The output shaft from the transmission is stripped!!! Just like Highwayman2013 said in previous post. Even though I suggested this to the shop two week ago, they finally checked it today!! So they are ordering a entire transmission and pulley. So I will end up with a new clutch and transmission. BUT it will not be ready until at least next week Tuesday or Wednesday.
THREE WEEKS WITHOUT!!!:banghead::banghead:

According to the service manager, this is a common issue. He said that they get one of these a month in. BRP should put out a service bulletin to all dealers to check for this issue when doing any type of service. Luck for me I was at a stop light when this happened. If I had been on the Interstate who knows what may have happened. It only has 28000 miles!!! I would be interested to know what others mileage is.

You can bet I will not accept the Spyder from the shop until I look it over thoroughly to make sure it has been put back together correctly.

Chances are the pulley alone stripped. Has happened several times to others. Typically the shaft is fine. The pulley is softer material than the shaft. But without seeing it, who knows.

If it were mine, and the shaft measured good, I would prefer they did not pull the motor and tear it apart, rather convince BRP to offer better warranty terms. This saves them money upfro, and later if nothing happens. But again, without seeing the shaft who knows.

can the customer go look at it and see? they should be able to show you
what happened. it is your machine.

"He said that they get one of these a month in" .........and they could not figure out what the problem was?

"You can bet I will not accept the Spyder from the shop until I look it over thoroughly"........Don't trust your dealer? Time to find a new dealer!

As if anyone can LQQk at a bike without tearing it apart and see a problem such as this. My thoughts

The shop is full of BS. If they get one a month (ya right) would they have not looked at the output shaft part first?

I am particularly happy that I do NOT need to frequent the California dealers. I hear more complaints about these machines from those in California than anywhere else. That is of course unofficial, but I am considering starting a database about where the complaints are from.

Firstly, why would this take so long, if the techs are trained?

Secondly, he stated that once the problem was discovered the service manager stated that this is a common problem and they get at least one of these each month. REALLY, so if that is the case why could they not diagnose it? Tell those guys to cut back on whatever it is they are smoking and get back to work. Maybe California will do the right thing and leave the Union like they keep promising!

Good grief, that is pathetic.

Unbelievable!

I went to pickup my Spyder this afternoon about 30 minutes before they closed. Before I took it home, I looked over.

1. one of the upper access panels not on correctly (right side for access to oil level and brake fluid)
2. missing small tupperware piece by steering column (just below the steering column)
3. scratches all over front hood ( looks like it was thrown on the floor)
4. drive belt tight against inner pulley on the rear tire (major issue, belt had to be removed to replace front pulley that was defective)
5. farkles not reinstalled correctly

NOT HAPPY!!

The mechanic had to come back in to work to look for missing tupperware. They found it.
They tried to buff out the scratches (did not work).
They pulled the Spyder back in to try and adjust the belt. Worked on it for 20 minutes.
End result - NO SPYDER!!:banghead:

If I would have been the mechanic, for the belt adjustment issue, I would have first checked the distance between the belt and the pulley to verified that it was correct. But since he pulled the Spyder back in the shop to adjust it, I knew he had not set it correctly and he knew it.

They said that they had to have the manager review the service and get ahold of me tomorrow. This nightmare just won't end! It will be 4 weeks tomorrow that it has been at this shop! :(

They definitely lost my future business!!

If you would PM me with the name of the dealer I would appreciate it.
i live in Temecula and would not want to go through all the crap that you have had to endure
