• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Nice ryde back from DC today, about 6 hours for a 4 hour ryde (DC nuttiness). Thanks to all the how to's and tips on this forum, no issue at all going from motorcycle to :spyder2:. First set of cloverleafs got a feel for higher speed turning, passing trucks was no issue, nor was rough road. Once out of DC cruised in the high 60's, low 70's.

About 180 miles in the left mirror started vibrating badly, when I got home I can see the housing isn't pushed tight against the body like the right side is, the whole mirror housing is pretty floppy. Couldn't see attachment points (pretty tired).

Anyone have a service manual with breakdown of the mirror attachment? I don't really want to go through dealer for a warranty issue on something that's probably an easy fix.
 
Loose mirror

From different threads that I have read on here spyder owners have had some problems and breakages when trying to remove these mirrors, if your not sure I would let your dealer take a look at it.

First, make sure the mirror spring wires are straight and parallel. If they are bent inward they may not catch the post,
and if they diverge or bend outward, the mirror will be loose. It can help to put a very tiny bit of lube on the outer,
conical part of the post only. I'm talking about a film here, not a glob. Make sure there is none on the back side (post notch).
Engage the keyhole slot first. Then rap downward firmly (but politely) on the outer edge of the mirror to seat the bottom latch.
Now rap forward on the outer edge of the mirror to seat the front latch. You can rap a little harder than you can taking the
mirrors off, because they won't fly across the room, but don't get carried away. Problems seating the latches are usually
caused by bent spring wires.

Glad you made it home safely. Bob hit the nail on the head. I had the same issue. Take a look at your posts and spring wires, if you are comfortable with that. If not, this is a good time to build a relationship with your local dealer.

glad you made it home safe and sound. :2thumbs: congratulations thats a sure way to get the hang of ryding a roadster. Those above with the RT's will clear up your mirror problem. Our are easy.. They just bolt on...:roflblack: Clip that sucker back on and enjoy your ryde..!!
 
Thanks everyone. Guess one of those less than gentle potholes bumps popped it off the lower pin. Hopefully no bent springs since the spyder is new, just been sitting for close to a year.

I have some reading to do, couldn't figure out how to talk the radio into scanning for stations, but no biggie as I had my sena with FM on the helmet.

Need to find some magnifying overlay for the display screen, all I can see is the digital speedo, the rest of the stuff is too small for old eyes.

Love the cruise control. Didn't find that it was abrupt on disengage, but I was prepared after reading about some folks getting suprised by the decel. Mine doesn't seem to really do that, or I'm just two used to high revving two stroke motorcycles to mind quick ups and downs.

Still on the fence about the fogs...darned expensive, I have some really big 55w led driving lights that I may look to mount in an alternate location. Lots of output and little draw.

Need to add my tender leads, heated gear plug, ram mounts for a GPS. Next Sunday when I'm back in town hope to do the Baja Ron sway bar installation. After that it'll be time to draw up plans for a small trailer. :)

It sounds like the mirror is not all the way off, in which case Bob's/Scotty's advice will help you. I would recommend that you take advantage of having a loose mirror to familiarize yourself with the attachment/detachment process because if you do anything to the Spyder that requires removing any Tupperware, it requires taking off the mirror(s). It is a relieving experience to know how to pop off a mirror and Bob's write-up is the best explanation I've read to do so. ...Don
 
Fog Lights

I purchased a new RTs in 2011 which had fog lights already installed. Not sure I needed them but they were there so why not. Riding in Minnesota during spring, summer and fall it seems the deer want to get out of the woods because of the bugs so they tend to gather along the shoulder of the roads. During the day not much of a problem as you can sure see them. At dusk or night they are almost invisible. The fog light on mine really light up the shoulder of the road and also the shallow ditches. Many times riding in the evening I see the deer so much sooner with the fog lights on. Friends tell me that they can see me coming from a great distance with all the lights on the spyder. Tried them a few times riding in rain and fog and did not see much improvement on my viability but if others can see me that is the key.
 
I met the real Scotty once...James Doohan. Almost empty star trek 'con' during the lean years between the tv show and the first movie. Maybe 50 people showed up, real nice gent, gathered us all around at his feet on the stage instead of out in chairs and told stories and sang. Then several of us hung out in the bar with him afterwards.

I know, unrelated, older ya get the more the brain remembers things that happened in the 70's and 80's than last week :).
 
I removed the top stud on the mirrors on my rts and replaced them with a thin washer behind,made the mirrors easier to install and seemed to be tighter

I'll look into that when I take these off to 'fix' the loose one and install the tricled mirror winkers.
