• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Hater at the bike show

Last month I went to the Progressive MC show. I was looking at the new Spyders when I noticed a boy climbing up a F3. His mother grabbed him by the arm and pulled him off saying, "That's for old people!". I thought, "Jeeze, haters will hate, and pass it on to the next generation".

Silly... I'm not old and love mine.... Well I may be old to her son lol... But my 11 and 8 year old loved to ride with me!

You could have walked over to the kid and said,
"That's okay; when I'm on mine, it makes me feel just like I'm YOUR age again!" :D

You meet these people all the time. Back in 1984 when I had a Yamaha Venture Touring, I was getting gas. A lady and her child came in and parked at the other pump. I heard her complaining how loud bikes like mine were, and that they should be banned from the roads.

If you are familiar with the Venture Touring, it is as quiet as a Gold Wing. Nothing like the HD's that she thought she was talking about.

I started mine up, it could hardly be heard at idle, gave her a look, and then did a thumbs up to the kid as I drove off.

Maybe she was afraid her kid would ask for a spyder come Christmas time!:roflblack::roflblack:

mom, mom, I want one!:bdh::bdh:

Gotta say...

I have never had a kid not like the spyder. They love to sit on it when we are at the touch a truck shows though the little ones really like crawling in and out of the 622 trailer. So don't worry about the kids and the more the parent tells them that the more they want it....

Maybe she just meant 'adults' by 'old people'. She will probably get the kid the non-motorized Spyder - Little Tykes edition.

Actually: one of THESE can do a good job of lighting the fire!

How 'old' does he need to be or is it a function of size? My grandson also climbs on and loves it and I too can't wait till we can ryde together.

It's not a matter of age so much as size safety. Georgia does not have a passenger age restriction:

That being said, a motorcycle passenger should be able to place feet firmly and flat on the passenger foot rests. No tippy toes allowed. That was always my rule.

Edit: well, I had a lot of rules for the younglings, over the ankle boots, leather gloves, full length pants and shirts, At least a denim jacket over the full length shirt. and a helmet provided by me. Full face.

Washington law age 5, in a car until they are 12 or 90lbs they must be in the backseat of a car seat/or in a special seat .

what really gets me about spyder haters is i have never met one that has ever ridden one. Im not thaaaat old, 45 on wed. and i still have a 2 wheel sport bike but i bought a spyder because its safer to take my wife and daughter on rides and still tons of fun. She has probably been riding with me since she was 7, she is 10 now. Funny they have to be strapped in a car seat till they are like 20 but can ride on a bike starting at 6 or 7, go figure

You meet the odd one

When we pulled into a gas station near Belleville last summer , a man in a Tilley hat walked over and said " that's quite a lookin contraption ya got there , does it have to be so DAMN loud !?" ..... My 08 GS with the stock exhaust . Another time at a gas station a lady approached and asked what kind of motorcycle it was and that she thought it was beautiful , a guy in a Harley shirt walked by and said " it's not a motorcycle it's a SkiDoo" and got in his 300 dollar Toyota and drove away

I like to have fun with the guys in cars, who want to tell you what you should be riding. :D
I like to ask, "So what are you riding?"
"Oh, I don't have one yet", pops up as a common answer... :dontknow:

"That's what I thought!", is a pretty useful comeback!

I had a lady and her teenage son looking at mine at a gas station
She told her son
That is the motorcycle I'll let you buy
