Spyder Gas Mileage

Hello again, Spyderlovers, I'm curious what most of you are getting for highway miles with the SE5, 998. I just purchased my 2013 Spyder RT Limited last weekend. Also, are there ways to increase mileage? I kind of wish the tank was larger, maybe eight gallons instead of six?

I rode from Birmingham, AL to Madison, AL, about 110 miles on a full tank, and was showing a quarter tank by the time I got home. I'm sure the dealer filled it with regular, 87 octane, which I don't plan to use; we have 93 octane fuel available in AL. Thanks, this is a great forum, by the way!

A mileage thread--watch out for what happens here. :roflblack::roflblack:

A gazillion variables can affect the mileage you will get.

That said--having owned 4 :ani29:'s with the 998 and 3 of them being the SE5--my overall mileage per gallon is about 31. The best I ever got was 34. Similar results on the SM5.

Hints for better mileage that work for me:

Windshield in lower position--where adjustable

Use higher octane fuel--here 90 is the tops. Other answers will vary on this one.

Keep the Rotax in the "happy" range. 5000 - 5500 rpms. Yes, it seems to get better mileage when revved out.

My 1330 RT gets average 40 mpg. Low 38 and high 42 so far.

With my 998-equipped 2010; I could get 35 or 36 mpg when I was out on the highway...
The 1330 is getting about 42 mpg under similar conditions...

Did you get the white one that was on Craigslist? I considered it, but bought a 2014 Limited from the dealer in Madison. I've been getting 33 mpg driving aggressively.

No, no no..!!

just put gas in it and go. If you bought it to get better gas mileage you made a mistake...:roflblack::roflblack: I get from 25 to 40 mpg's depending on a mirad of things..use the best gas you can get keep your oil fresh and the air filter clean and you will do fine...

And go easy on the throttle

Gunning and goosing it, you could go through a tank in a few hours really.

I am bad for this above, info.

Yes, too many variables to consider effective average ranges.

Speed kills, the fuel stretcher too...

I agree many variables to MPG, I was getting about 28 with my '12 RT S SE5. I have since upgraded to a '14 RT L and getting in excess of of 40 with the same driving patterns.

Have to agree that you will get many different answers depending :dontknow:..............but we are always two up and get 30-32 running at interstate speeds without the Rt622 trailer.

I've gotten 24 MPG . . . and I've gotten 37 MPG . . . how you ride . . . acceleration rates, deceleration rates, tire pressure, highway or byway riding, wind . . . all make a significant difference. My best mileage is when I run between 5300 and 5600 RPMs . . . and while running at those RPMs in 5th gear on an interstate, I get a lot lower MPG than running the same RPMs shifting between 1st and 2nd gear on byways where I'm only going 35 MPH.

I seldom check for MPG, anymore . . . because I didn't buy my Spyder for economy, but for fun!
