We did not give up or quit, just ducked to reload. As most of ya know from our other threads, we are the unlucky ones with the 2008, SE5, RS, black & silver spyder from hell, lemon of all lemons. Carlo, executive customer service rep from BRP called on 12-17-10 and left a message to call him back at our convenience. On Monday, 12-20-10 my wife Joan called Carlo back & left a detailed message to call us back. Carlo did so & they talked for an hour or so. Carlo dominated the conversation by interupting, over talking & just not very interested in what Joan was trying to say. Carlo expressed how lucky we were because BRP has worked so hard to do warranty work for free on our 2008, se5 RS & they have worked so hard to fix our intermittent, high tech, computerized, electrical nightmare. The weeks & weeks and monthe & months it has spent in the authorized CAN AM spyder BRP dealership service depts, all the while we are making the $275 monthly payments, while the poor mechanics are trying to diagnose why it has intermittent no start, intermittent big explosions in the air box & backfires. The poor mechanics are trying to figure out why they have replaced 4 to 6 times, why they have replaced the squeeking, howling brake shoes 4-5-times, why they had to replace all 3 brake roters, why they had to replace the park brake, update the park brake 3-5 times. They can't duplicate why sometimes, intermittent, it stalls out & is locked up inbetween 2 gears & I have to get off & rock it back & forth in the middle of intersections, very dangerous & embarising before it will start. The park brake has to work because its an auto trans & will roll away, & did one night at my friends, John Wycoff's. It rolled down a smal hill & into a ditch & did some minor damage to the front end. Sometimes, intermittent, when up shifting, the engine will stumble & go rump, rump, rump, like the computer is trying to figgure out what to do next. It throws you forward & then jerks you backwards hard, dangerous. They replaced the ignition switch and little black box that goes with it, a 4-6 hour job & new keys. New number 1 spark plug high tech wire, coils, new updated ground wire, replaced the instrument panel, because sometimes, intermittent, the clock would go from AM to PM to military time and back again. Sometimes, intermittent, the two trip meters would 0 out, now ya don't know how far you went on your trip or how far it is to your next gas stop, bummer. Pete Hoff, service mgr. replaced the gear box position censor, the perge valve, charcole canister update. Pete Hoff & his poor mechanic were frustrated trying to diagnose the elusive intermittent electrical problems. Months & months ago, 6 - 8 months, we offered Pete to take our spyder & ride it back & forth to work & ride the heck out of it on the weekends, but he declined because he did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his drivers license. His mechanic did take it out on some short test rides & experienced some no starts, backfires in the airbox & stumbles on up shifts. They also experineced no start problems on Tousleys red & black demo spyder. Pete Hoff assured us that we were not the only ones having some of these problems. Quite a few on sypderlovers.com are having their beloved spyders in the service dept for weeks also. They have had many serious mechanical engine problems that the mechanics have diagnosed. Intermittent electrical problems are the hardest to diagnose. CAN AM spyder BRP stonewalls them, too & has their beloved spyder sit outside in all kinds of bad weather. We suggested to Pete Hoff that they should ship our spyder back up to Quebec Canada to their research & development dept to diagnose the intermittent electrical problems. I told Pete that ya had to ride it every day, 7 days a week & then they would know what I was talking about. They never responded.
I discussed with Pete Hoff that when ya are dealing with very low voltage, 1 volt, 1/2 volt or 0.010 volt, it is very, very hard to trace the problem down. Intermittent electrical low voltage is the hardest, if not impossible to find. It could be as simple as a bad ground wire, a loose connecteon, or as machinegunner suggested on spyderlovers.com, it could be a defective battery, a loose plate & when ya hit a bump, the battery would have an intermittent disconnect. Hit a bump & it could disconnect, heat up & stop working, malfunctioning it, cools down & good to go again. The only way you can experience that is to ride it every day, some long distance. It has to to be driving the poor mechanic at Tousley & it is us, crazy. They only get paid to remove & replace + parts & to adjustment, no diagnosing, test riding. This last time the refused to work on our spyder unless a BRP tech was there to help them. They were sick & tired of working on it & who can blame them? This last time, Crystal or Carlo gave Art, the service magr & his mechanics the go ahead to do what ever it takes to fix it. This last time they replaced the computer, DPS 3 more times, the first two new onesvwere defective & the 3rd new one is the one that crapped out in Sedona, AZ. We had to rent the car to get home. IT sat in Prescott Valley a month before Carlo got a truck to haul it up to Tousley & it sat another month before we got it back. That is 2 months of our short riding season. They replaced the main wire harness, fog light wire harnesses, new brake shoes, new park brake, & fixed the trunk from leaking water into it & ruining our things for the 3rd or 4th time. We were really, really optimistic this time because by now, they have replaced every electrical componment more than once. But the spyder from hell, the lemon of all lemons, its demon raised there ugly heads within 3 miles. On an up shift, it went rump, rump, rump & threw me back & forth. So, it is obvious to us that they have not diagnosed the problem & the demon still lives under its pretty plastic skin. Enough is enough, we are so burned out, its jenksed, we are not there R & D guy, we are not their ginny pigs, they can't fix it, because God knows they have tried for 1 1/2 years they've thrown every new part they can at it, it's still the spyder from hell. All the time its been in the shop, weeks & weeks, months & months. Its been in their shop more time than in our posession. Most of the time we have had it, its been in the ice cold winter here in Minnesota. We are still making the $275 monthly payment. Thank God we bought the BEST 5 year extended warranty that BRP offered. Its been over 1 1/2 years of hell & we are not looking forward to another 3 1/2 years of fighting. This is not what we signed up for. We were sold when I saw the really cool spyder advertised on TV & I got the really cool free DVD from the dealer & I watched it over & over & was sold on the safety of the y factor, the really cool way it looked, all the really cool high tech safety & boshe features. It was our dream machine, we loved it, no more tinkering on my old 1970 - 1980 jap 2 wheelers, just make my payments, wash it, wax it & ride. That's what we signed up for. On 12-20-10 when Joan was talking to Carlo, he said he wants us to wait until it warms up, 3 to 5 months, then wants us to ride it 175 miles up to some test place in NE Wisconsin or they wil come to our home so that the high tech technitions can ride with us to see first hand to make sure that we are not doing something wrong. Well they can come get it right now, take it any where they want because I am burned out. I don't want that spyder anymore. Either give us all of our money back, including all our expenses or give us the brand new 2009 se5 RS thats been sitting on Tousleys show room floor for 2 years. Our spyder has about 15,000 miles on it, very low miles because of all its time in their shop. Carlo told my wife this time that it is not BRP's policy to give new spyders away & to get that out of her head right now. Crystal mentioned that also some time ago. So Carlo & Crystal, what is BRP's policy when you can't fix one of your machines? Carlo & BRP need to realize that I am like "Rocky", the Italian stalion, they can beat he heck out of me in a round, but when the bell rings, I come out swinging & hitting hard. A friend of mind got me a copy of the federal lemon law (Magnuson-Moss warranty Act) & we have spoken to a lemon law attorney from Chicago. We hope & pray that BRP stands up & does the right thing & shows all of us that we can have faith in their product & that they will stand behind their products. C ya all later. Studybakerbob.
