back of brackets

Thank you for the pic my looks just like yours. Could u tell me if the back of the brackets next to the tach and speedometer lift up or are yours solid mounted. Mine are just loose resting on the round large washers.

Do you like the shield? How tall are you? Does it give you a quiet pocket without buffeting?
Install looks good!

Blue Ridge Critique

I'm generally pretty positive about all things Spyder, but not the Blue Ridge and for a very specific reason: it blasts wind at you from the neck up...and I mean to the extent that on a long distance ride, this could be VERY tiring. (I have about 1,100 miles on it now.) Yes, it does prevent serious buffeting of your body, but this "in your face" wind just isn't getting it. (BTW, I'm 5'10")

I have ordered Madstad's new shield which I hope will be in next week. If it is as advertised, this should solve the problem and you'll soon thereafter seen a Blue Ridge for sale on this forum for a very good price.

More later.....

BlueRidge Windscreen

I got my problem worked out. Loosened all the bolts and retightened now it is secure in back. I didn't take mine for a ride yet as I'm waiting for a guy to come over to check out the F-3. I will let u know tomorrow if I think it's worth it. I'm 6 foot and and a T-10 paraplegic. Seems like my head will be above it. I was worried it would be to tall but think it will be just right. I bought it hopping to cut some of the wind noise so I could hear the engine better.

I installed mine. Was too loose. I ground down the purple spacers about a 1/8" and it is solid now. I added some brackets to raise it up about 3.25" and it still rattles me around in a 3/4 helmet. I am 6'1" and I am going to get a Madstad.

I am 5'11" but also have the UFIT foot pegs at the forward most position (which may make a difference on my
overall seating). I feel almost no wind on my helmet. In-fact I put my hand up today to see where the
wind crosses over, and yes it would be at the top of my head.

I am 6'1" and the wind over the top of the blue ridge hits me between nose and chin. Really buffets my helmet around straining my neck. Riding 700 miles home from Spyderfest today and tomorrow, getting very familiar with this windshield's properties.

I really do not like what I see in the pics at Madstad. The very large brackets are dead center of line of sight in the windshield. They need to rethink this. Yes it may move air over your head but it blocks visibility and looks awful from head on.

Waiting to see what F4 brings for the F3.

And everything else you said, i.e. wind blast, just rode my F3 with blue ridge 4 hrs home from SPYDERFEST I'm beat up even though its always fun to be on the spyder. It's adequate at 40-50 mph in the twisties, but at freeway speeds definitely inadequate for me even with X-Creen perched on top. And ditto on the Madstad, it's sitting on my kitchen table. I'm trying to decide whether to bumble through it myself, or just take it over to Harvey. I'll prob get Spyderpops to do it right. Anyway, just wanted to say when I read your thread I felt like I had written it. Good luck to both of us.

Ron

Rode 100 miles with my modified Blue Ridge. Horrible buffeting. At 50 mph its tolerable. At 75 its unbearable unless I hunch over. On previous bikes I had the Memphis Fats 22 and it was never a problem. Going to be in FL in a week or so. Going to go by Madstad and look them over. I need about three or four more vertical to keep the wind off my helmet.

I don't know how many saw my Blueridge at Spyderfest, but I raised the rear 2 inches and then added my RS-S sport shield to raise the top about 3 inches. It works very well and did not cost any thing. I don't think it looks that bad either.

Has anyone tried or bought a Route 66 windshield, it is a couple of inches taller than the Blue Ridge? Just a thought.:spyder:

That's the windshield most folks wanted, but it was discontinued before it was ever released. I don't think anyone has it, but i could be wrong.

test of my BlueRidge I installed yesterday

Wow really gave it a good test today. I'm 6' and wear a full face shield helmet> The front hinges up with moveable clear shield. Unless you are short bodied and 5'8" I don't think you will be happy with this w/screen. I was thinking I might have to start wearing earplugs before I put the blue ridge on now it is a MUST. The one good thing I can say is on a 2 lane road at 65 mph hugging near the center line when tractor trailers passed in opposite direction the F-3S se6 with the screen is much more stable than without when the blast hits. The rest of the trip was no fun. 40 to 53 tolerable, 53 to 63 wishing I had ear plugs lot of wind noise can't hear engine any more. 63 to 73 feels like a little kid is hitting each cheek and ears with a steady rhythm of fists annoying big time. Hit the interstate and played around with following distances with tractor trailer rigs so could gauge all the wind zones. Not fun and at 73 all the wind and sound was hitting my ears and was down right PAINFUL. Took the bike to 89 mph to check handling even with an under construction road and uneven pavement the F-3 handled better than I would have thought but to much worry with the road to be fun. I took slow back roads home and what a relief. I did learn I want a windscreen for comfort less wind noise and better handling in wind blasts but this Blue Ridge is sure not the one. I like the mods I'm hearing and may do mine or just get another brand when I hear of a good one.

Have to agree @jaymac. I had to wear earplugs with my half helmet. 3/4 with a shield buffeted around so much my nose itched incessantly. Gotta get another shield or sell the bike. It's useless for highway riding, for me, with this shield setup.

Same here, love the blue ridge, I'm 5'-9" and no wind at all

I'd sure like to see pictures of your 2 inch modification on the windshield. Please

I'm also 5'- 11" with the foot pegs at the +2 position and it doesn't work for me. Without helmet I get a lot of "wind noise" around 45. Hard to take for very long. Was not an issue on my RTL. Hopefully someone will come out with a shield that uses the Blue Ridge brackets.
Rick

Madstad

Installed the Madstad 20" today (I'm 6'1") and absolutely no wind and I'm looking over the windshield (eye level about 2-3 inches above top lip of screen). Plus it's adjustable.

I have the Blue Ridge. My helmet nullifies much of the turbulence around my head. I have a Bell Vortex, which is a race focus helmet. There are better ones out there depending on how much you want to spend. The AGV Corsa is another very aerodynamic helmet.
