• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Dribbles

My 2010 RT has suddenly taken a liking to dribbling at night. It is colorless and odorless and tasteless. Just kidding. I assume its antifreeze coming from I don't know where. It appears the origin may be in the center of the engine. The bike does not run hot nor are there any other signs. The overflow tank is hard to tell how much fluid is in it. I wish the cap were easier to take off. Maybe the 2014's are. This happens only at night while I sleep so should I have the bike start wearing some Depends?

where..??

these are the common culprits..radiator hose, the one with the adjustable clamp. Tighten that. The tank cracking, the radiator cap, tighten to the second detent, and the impeller shaft seal on the water pump. Water will leak during a ryde and blow around but when stopped will run down and accumulate till it drips off... You can check those points to start or run it by the dealer...hope it's just the hose clamp or radiator cap...:gaah:

Never assume anything. Most fluids have an odor, color, or feel that will help identify them. If it is coolant, check to see if it is coming from the overflow. If so, you coolant cap may not be tightened t the second detent, or it may be faulty. If the coolant is dripping off the frame or splash pan, it could be coming from anywhere. Check the hoses (especially the lone hose with a worm clamp), the plastic adapter between the hose and the head, and the coolant tank itself. Most likely cause is the water pump shaft seal...a known weakness for which there is a service bulletin. Small coolant leaks are not really a problem if they don't lower the coolant level too quickly.

coolant leak

coolant leak often gives a distorted picture,
myself I own a 2012 RT, where weathered eagle image also has been.
in the first instance, it looked as if the seal of the water pump was leaking.
afterwards with a little reasoning ..... that the overflow pipe is too short cooling reservoir, which dispersed droplet formation to give the engine.
and, of course, precisely where the pump is mounted.
it's a lot of work for everything to disassemble, and then to find out that the overflow pipe is the culprit
solution:
extend or renew pipe below the spyder .. it's not confuse eagle

My 2012 had a leak from the water pump, and it started out as a clear liquid leak that appeared to come from the center of the bike. If you look at the water pump through the opening behind the fan you can see the shaft bearing cover of the water pump. On mine you could see the oil leakage.
I think it is time for a 2014

They all will leak/weep from the water pump shaft seal eventually. It is very common on these motors. Most probably have a leak and don't even know it because it never gets past the splash pan before evaporating.
There are several threads on this on the Aprilia forums since the motor has been in those bikes longer and the leak would be easier to see.
Most of those peeps don't even mess with fixing it unless its really bad.

:agree: All mechanical seals will eventually leak. Actually, if they don't weep a but they don't last long, the liquid that escapes cools them. That's why there is a weep hole on the water pump...or a hole or tube on most pumps with mechanical seals. When the leakage gets too bad, that's the time for replacement...not at the first sign of a drop.
