• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

When in Indy this past weekend for the dealer show, we got to see the Spyder knock off in person.

It is a really cheaply made and I mean really cheaply made everthing that is bad about China knock offs copy of the Spyder concept.

I sat on it and all I can say is "buyer beware!" I can't see this thing going for more than a few rides before things start falling apart for real. :yikes:

The Spyder has nothing to fear from this copycat for sure. :thumbup:

Standard Chinese CVT scooter design (I have a couple of these - 2 wheelers) with an extra wheel and copied plastic. Notice it has a shift lever? It's just to select reverse. It's using the universal Chinese all terrain vehicle belt drive CVT configuration with a reverse box. My Kymco 250 (Taiwanese, not Chinese - much better materials and quality control) tops out at around 75 mph... with the additional drag of this three wheeler, no wonder top speed is listed as 60+.

Once the used market drops out on em, I'd like to have one just for the hell of it... (or so I can point and laugh at it)

Until the latest gas crunch hit, you could get one of this genre (with 2 wheels) on the used market for well under $500 with original prices up to $2k+. Many sold very cheap (got 2 of mine for $300) beacuse the owners couldn't get them to run anymore - usually a simple fix... Now ppl are paying exorbitant prices for these, even though they'll self destruct in a year or two without constant maintenance and repair - just to save a few bucks on fuel.

One can hope that as the market builds, the quality might improve? I'm not holding my breath. I keep mine maintained well, and they're fun... but I wouldn't want to depend on them.

The powertrains are Honda and Yamaha copies, maybe a Suzi and Kaw now too. I know from looking at the 4 wheelers that were offered at a local general supply outlet, that the CVT was a Yamaha 250 and the manual shift was an old Honda 90-125 design. I wouldn't be4 surprised if, like the Korean industry, that the Japanese manufacturers get tax credits for "donating" their old tooling to other developing Asian countries. Many Korean cars have a couple year old Toyo/Nissan/whatever drivetrain. If done properly, one would think that all the "bugs" would have been worked out.

you never know they might sell a lot of them, they might have BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE THEN BPR. AND SOME BETTER DEALERS,:ohyea:

Interesting theory. I know a few people that bought some other 'knock-off' bikes like this--- and when they break down they are basically screwed. No dealer network for service or support, parts have to ship from china or wherever... and you won't find any local shop that would work on one for liability issues.

I wouldn't pay $500 for one of these---- let alone $5000 .

13 HP... just can't get over that. My power washer has that much HP! :roflblack:

Good meeting you at the dealer expo. Someone asked me if I had gone up to see the Spyder knock off. I told them that I had read about it and didn't want to bother. I'll give you a call this week about ordering a tail light and air filter.

Don't know about full size 3 wheelers, But i bought my grandson a 90cc
four wheel ATV [Chinese] auto /Head lites / electric start and the best part
a remote stop so we can stop him when ever go's to fast. using it for two years now. Paid under 4 hundred

P/S The best thing for us Spyder owners is that BRP gets some real competition!! So don't knock the knock offs some day they'll get there.

I haven't seen this knock off in person but I no reason to doubt what MM said about it. However not all Chinese products are junk. My wife loves her 250cc Q-link scooter. If I compare the workmanship to my Spyder, the scooter's fit and finish is better. It doesn't have finiky computers, the carb can easily be adjusted with only a screwdriver. and the materials used in construction are equal to the BRP product. Maybe part availability might be a problem, but then again, look how long some Spyder owners have been waiting for parts. This make-believe-Spyder won't knock the "real one" off it's perch, but someday one from Japan or Korea...or maybe China is going to. Probably sooner than we want to admit.

There are many good scooters from China CF MOTO makes some real nice units and we had a V3 for awhile, and although not up to the level as Patti's Yamaha Vino 125 for quality it was a very nice bike.

The motor in this Spyder copy is of the same design as that V3 was and is not the area I think would give people problems as it is basied on a proven design from Honda.

It is the rest of the unit that was not good at all. The paint on the metal work was real bad and even thin in some places.

No really "bubble gum welds" with tons of splatter every place you looked.


The plastic was hard and stiff which seemed like it will be real easy to crack and some parts did not even come close to fitting together in a quality way.

So I think it is going to be everything but the motor that will give you the problems here not the motor itself.

Like the convoluted drive set up they have to go from a scooter's direct (from the case to the rear wheel) drive, to the jack shaft set up this has coming off the scooters engine case.

I can only see the future problems with this area and design alone, not to mention China has not always had the "best bearings in the industry" for this kind of high load application.

So please do not cofuse my noticing how poorly made this product is, to a saying all Chinese scooters are bad. I just think most people will not be overly happy with this unit.

I think its kinda cool:2thumbs:!! Lets say for someone who-
1- Will never afford a Spyder.
2- Wants to ride but has physical limits.
3- Doesn,t need to go 0-60 in 4.5 Seconds.
4- It happy driving around town and rural areas.
5- Really needs to get over 50 MPG.

If the Spyder was never built I would buy one of these but a 400cc engine with maybe 20 HP would get more people in the door!!!:D


If I had the Extra$$$ and a bigger garage I would defnitely buy one to tinker with!!nojoke :roflblack:
