Spyder Colors for safty

Out of all the colors in the spyder line up, which color do you think is the safest, as for as being seen day and night, and over all. I wanted a white spyder, but wife picked the red she said for safety sake for being seen. So I let her pick the spyder color, but the mods are all of my chossing. What do you think?:spyder2:

I think Red is the most visible, but nothing is better than an alert rider. If you depend on others to see you first, it's not a matter of if, but when you will get tagged. Enjoy the journey.

Agree with you in absolute terms! That is why all my bikes and cars are black and/or grey

I am editing this post to say that there are some times that a rider can use all the precautions in the world to prevent and accident, and still have them occur. Consequently, I am hoping that even in this given situation, that the color of my spyder might just help to prevent an accident.

From a standpoint of contrast, yellow & black is the most visible combination. White is brightest, but it blends with background colors. red is quite visible in the daytime, but it disappears quickly at night, and may not be visible to those that are red/green color blind...a surprisingly high percentage of the population. Browns and greens blend with nature, and are not very visible. Same with blue in some instances. Blacks...well, you know.

Wikipedia has this to say about automobile color:

A Swedish study found that pink cars are involved in the fewest and black cars are involved in the most crashes (Land transport NZ 2005). In Auckland New Zealand, a study found that there was a significantly lower rate of serious injury in silver cars; with higher rates in, brown, black, and green cars. The Vehicle Colour Study, conducted by Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and published in 2007, analysed 855,258 accidents occurring between 1987 and 2004 in the Australian states of Victoria and Western Australia that resulted in injury or in a vehicle being towed away.[SUP][14][/SUP] The study analysed risk by light condition. It found that in daylight black cars were 12% more likely than white to be involved in an accident, followed by grey cars at 11%, silver cars at 10%, and red and blue cars at 7%, with no other colours found to be significantly more or less risky than white. In the end, the best bet for visibility is a hi-vis helmet and/or jacket. Studies have shown a significant safety advantage to wearing hi-vis colors on parts of you body that move while riding...namely the head and arms. I ride red, and much prefer it to my old black Spyder. Nancy rides yellow. If the RT had been available in yellow, as on the 2013, I'd probably ride yellow, too. I also wear hi-vis jackets, and have additional lighting. As was said, however, people run into school busses, so in the end, all the preventive measures in the world may not help as much as good, defensive riding.

IMO: the yellow would be the most visible. Or, the suggestion, to wear high viz. riding vest or other high viz. garments.

I have Lava Bronze which is probably the worst color to be seen.I do however wear hi viz clothing and have Tricled lights both on the front&back.

Nearly 4 years ago when I went to Cowtown looking at Spyders, I wanted red for that exact reason. Len convinced me that a Full Moon would be easy to paint so I bought one. Within a couple of days I realized the Spyders were so different and new at that time, it did not matter what color it was because people was going to notice it. I lost count of the amount of times I almost got ran off the road by people watching the Spyder and trying to get my picture on the Interstate. To this day it is still full moon color!

Any color that provides a cecent contrast between you and the "background blur" is best...
The grays and blacks might blend in a bit too much for my tast...
Being seen is important; but so is seeing! :thumbup:

I replaced my reflectors with lights and added a breaking light bar to RT. At night, at sunset as it gets more difficult to see, or on a foggy day, I'll put some high output LEDs against any color at all.

And, for me, I prefer not to play too much with the design, so the changes I made don't look like mods unless you know what you are looking for (no offense to those of you who add a lot of visible extras, just a personal choice for right now).

I wear Hi vis green Vest over my jacket everytime I ride.:yes: The more visiblity the better, I was a Aircraft
carrier flight deck coordinator/Safety officer and during night flying operation, it is very essential to pay attention due to the nature of danger.:yes: Safety is paramount, reflective vest, helmet and more but most importantly is to keep your head on the SWIVEL all the time. Just like while riding our SPYDERS make sure we keep our head on the swivel all the time. Ride safe:yes::yes::yes:

I totally agree with you.RED is definitely the only real color for a Spyder.
