Spyder 2010 RS SM5 - TailLight Wire Chafing on Rear Tire - Fix
Hi everyone. I got a few more minutes to checkout some more details of my 2010 RS. A while back, The Nicko messaged me and suggested I check out the rear taillight wire. It leads down the right side of the Spyder along the rear fender mounting bracket (along side the brake line) and then goes on its' own, up under the rear fender to make its' connection with the backside of the light.
This is what I found after my first ride, 32km:
ISSUE : The taillight electrical wire was hanging down far enough for the rear wheel to start cutting into it. The wire is secured in most areas with zip ties or clips up to this point, but at the top of the fender it was not seated in the clip and hangs down to tire.
THE FIX : Very easy to fix. The wire needs to be properly seated into the black clip in the center of the fender - look closely and you'll see it. Get something blunt and push the wire into it. I also installed the zip tie as a backup.
Close - up - You can see the slice into the wire from the rear tire:
Secured with a zip tie as a backup, in addition to placing it into the clip.
Not a serious issue, but worth a look.
I would be interested in knowing if anyone else have seen this on their GS or RS??!!
Hope that helps.
Thank you. Cheers, everyone, and Ryde Safe!
