I Jave a 2017 RTL 20,000 miles on it. took it to dealer cause it was making a loud noise aroud the engine.. They looked at it & figured I need a new sproket, They put it back together so I could get home with it I am 250 miles from home & then another 50 miles back to dealer to drop it off. Scared to death I won't make it home. Now will this sprocket be hurting the engine by traveling 300 miles? They didn't fix it it cause it was this morning when they looked at it & needed a sprocket not open tomorrow or Monday . has anyone driven 300 miles with a bad sprocket??

Depends...

Not knowing what is bad it is hard to tell. If it was just loose as mine was you can make it the 300 miles if torqued back down and the splines are still decent. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the shaft which becomes a costly repair. Don't know the shop or the techs but if they put you back together it would seem they feel you can make it....:dontknow:

The sprocket is softer than the shaft so it strips out first not hurting the shaft I have witnessed this

Usually output shafts are hardened high carbon steel, so IMO the risk of damaging it in a relatively short ride is minimal.
