There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Splash Pan Removal on RS vs RT

Rascal

New member
I am so enjoying learning from everyone's experiences on this forum. Especially came in handy trying to figure out how to do an oil change! I do have a question: I see many different people saying they took off their bottom splash pan to help with the heat situation. Is this the case on the RS as well as the RT? It seems there are many more RT people posting on this forum so I just want to be sure before I bare my Rascal's underbelly! I already done the SpyderPops which helped my flaming right foot but am hoping the splash pan removal will help the left side heat. What about drilling holes vs pan being off? I see a few doing that as well. WillI run into warranty issues doing either?

Again, thanks to all the wonderful people who contribute so much here!

If the heat problem on the left side of your RS is up near your thigh, your Y-gaskets probably need replacement.

Thanks for responding, I always look forward to hearing your opinion on other threads.

I have seen that about Y gaskets in other threads. Could that be the case with only 1100 miles on a brand new bike?

I have taken the Left and Right splash Pan (Plastic Piece) of my GS and my RT with Zero Problems- Drilling holes in them is Just ruining the part IMHO? Nothing is going to suddenly Jump Up 7 inches after it goes by the frame member near the front axle??

Take them off and put the 10mm Bolts Back into the frame so that no rust sets into the frame and their there whenever you want to put them back to sell?

Taking the 2 bottom plastic pieces OFF is probably the biggest thing you can do to lessen the heat although I understand it is Harder to do on the 2013 model?:dontknow:

Not likely...it usually takes several thousand.

I took them off of my 08 GS/RS with no ill effects. However, I thought I might get too much road grime so I drilled them (a lot) and put it back. It seems to be the best compromise regarding heat disappation and protection.
