• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spider keys

Looks like a great product...but I don't think I'm smart enough to order one!!
If you have a working printer (unlike i did) it is ez. You will use a lock smith to cut the "blades" & clone the chip. The sight has all info set u right. & customer service has been great. Can pm me if i can help u too.

These are what I have also. Very happy with them. Other ryders get jealous when they see them.

Another option i found & did not care forImageUploadedByTapatalk1434438406.368808.jpg simple fold of leather. Having dangling keys is cumbersome & can scratch paint on some bikes. Keyport solves that problem quite well. Allows me to keep the "janitor sized" spare ring in frunk, various knives & tools attached. Fyi just the way i prefer it. Find what works for you.

My bike came with 1 key, no scabbard, I bought it "used" with 400 miles on it. But I just purchased 2 virgin keys with scabbards and it is a neat idea, while I don't think there is anything better than a regular key with a hole in my opinion. It is sorta a worry if I lose one, but with 3 keys I should be fine. Expensive though, do I have to go to a key guy to cut it, then to Can-am to program it? Or can the key guy program it? Thanks!

You do get it cut at a locksmith, the odds are that he can't program it. Then you go to the dealer for programming. Ask for a kiss, its nice to get a little loving when you get screwed.

From your description I assume the 2 virgin keys you refer to are BRP ones. There are 2 different types of keys that look exactly the same that are not compatible with each other. I hope you got the right ones. First get them cut by a locksmith. You did not tell us what year your Spyder is. If your Spyder is 2013 or older, new keys can be programmed to be accepted by your Spyder by anyone with a master key (dealer). If your Spyder is 2014 or later new keys can be programed to be accepted by your Spyder by anyone with a licensed copy of BUDS (dealer).

Do we buy these "virgin" keys from BRP or a BRP dealer?

Those keys can be purchased from a dealer, but you may be able to purchase them from other sources as well, such as cheapcycleparts.com, etc. If you have a 2013 or earlier you can purchase an Aprilia key that works just fine once it has been copied and cloned. There were at least two long threads about doing that about a year ago.

The master keys that were referenced can also be purchased by a private individual. I have one I purchased online, it works just fine. And I have been using the non-Can Am clone keys for over a year without problems. So, for 2013 and earlier if you get a Can-Am key and copy one of your other keys all you need to do is find someone with a master key to program your system to accept it. There is a limit on the number of keys your system will accept and anytime you do a reprogram ALL keys that you want to work with the bike have to be run through the process. If you go through the clone process with a non Can Am key you do not have to go through the program process because the Spyder thinks your cloned key is one of your originals.

For 2014s and later, as far as I know, no one has been successful in cloning a key for that system. So, you would have to get a key from Can Am and have it programmed into your system using BUDS, but the limit on keys with that system is 8 IIRC.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is BUDS? :hun:

BRP Utility Diagnostic System, I think. Anyway it is a diagnostic computer program that enables dealers to learn almost everything about your Spyder after they plug it in. They can make all kinds of adjustments like resetting the steering angle sensor, downloading software changes into the engine control module and VSS, read out error codes, tell what percentage of run time is in various rpm ranges, and on and on. It's used for all BRP products like ATVs and water craft, not just Spyders.

I put my bike in the profile I guess it isn't showing up, need to figure out how to fix that. It is a 2014 RT SM6 (wish it was an SE6) oh well....it is what I was able to find here. The two keys I got from Aaron Lyberg LeadersRPM along with all the other accessories my bike didn't have (it had nothing with it, other than 1 key). I found it used with 400 miles on it, and had looked for 3 months for an RT. I am happy with it though, took me 1 hour to learn to drive it, and I have been practicing at least 3 times a week on it now, I feel pretty competent now, and I have never rode a bike before. I hope I have the right ones too, I will know soon, but they would take them back in the US if necessary I imagine, I bought my helmet, tool kit, IPOD cable and other items from them, and they were very helpful. I am in Mexico, not the US, so for me everything Can-Am is a tough deal, but I am happy as a Pea in the Pod with my bike. The dealer is about 3 hours from me, and that will be my longest trip and most dangerous (Mexico City is no piece of cake) and I am all alone in this, American female on a Motorcycle in the Male Dominated country of Mexico! yikes! haha but I will manage, I always do! I have a load of things to talk to them about my bike. Like is there a Spyder group that I can ride with. Do I have a 2 year warranty instead of what I heard is that we only get 1 year and mine will be up in Aug. Laser Alignment? Where can I go for that? And should I? Want to see a Bluetooth Dongle in action. Hopefully they sell a bit of gear (doubtful) but it is also a Harley Dealer (opps) haha, oh well....we make due with what we have here. I also want to put the RT Fog Lights on my bike, as it is the low end RT, wish wish it was a limited....oh well.

How did you cut the spyder key to fit? Knowing it has a chip :dontknow::yikes:
i visited the website, I like the idea

I will just the sheath part. I have three keys left, lost one. Three is minimum I would have. One to use. One hidden on the spider and one home is a safe and known location to be used only for going getting at least one more new key.
I keep the key on the sheath on key ring in my pocket. I knew several people used a chain around their neck to carry it. No problems with me.
I kind of like the idea of only one key and not a bunch of stuff scratching the paint around the keyhole. 2010 RT

I figured it out finally and can see I now have an avatar and signature! haha, thank you though! :spyder:

Fyi the chip is cloned by a locksmith that is needed to cut the blank key blades they send you. More info available if u live chat with customer support. I highly suggest Aimee & Bradley very knowledgable & helpful. Also lot of options, color & side panels, cant offer a quote on price, to each their own, fyi will support 6 individual keys/blades. That go from bottle opener, HD SECURITY KEYS, to thumb drives& more. Will not fit barrel keys, but has a small ring on end cap for remote fobs & or that if u like.
