• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spider keys

Look on EBay, I saw one there. It clamps on the top side of the key and allows it to be attached to a key ring. I was looking under Spyder accessories.

Where the black and grey meet at the "top" drill a small hole and add a key ring. There are pictures here, use search.

I like the way it comes. The sheath it comes in has a hole in the end that goes onto a key ring. That protects it and keeps it together with whatever other keys you want. Unlike the other keys on the ring, the Spyder key will be oriented with the grip end of the key away from the ring which makes it easy to locate in your pocket without looking. When you need the key, you just slip it out of the sheath like pulling a knife out of its scabbard. When I first looked at the key in the sheath, I thought, "This is weird." But after figuring it out and putting it on my key ring, I think it is a brilliant idea.

cheap and easy

there is a hole already in the key,
just use a small drill bit to open it.

3/4 of a +1. Maybe not brilliant but very satisfactory. I prefer not to have anything protruding from the ignition switch but the key itself.

Looks like a great product...but I don't think I'm smart enough to order one!!

I rather like the scabbard idea. However, my fear is that over time the scabbard will wear out from constant usage, and no longer hold the key securely. Has anyone had an issue with this? :dontknow:

I've wondered about that too, Pam. How long has the key scabbard been used? Since my Spyder is a 2014, I don't know how long the keys have been provided like that. I know that after seven months of the key being in an out of the scabbard multiple times almost every day, it still fits quite snuggly. Maybe if it wears out, BRP will provide a replacement scabbard for a few hundred dollars. :roflblack: In the meantime, I really like using it the way it is. I'm not worried about it because if it does become less snug in the future, I'll be aware of that and think about other options then. And if it does loosen and slip out, it will slip out in my pocket.

But I agree with you Pam. I'd like to know if anyone has actually had a problem with it getting loose and falling out of the scabbard.

My Spyder came with a scabbard for each key. If the primary scabbard got loose I'd just switch, or alternate keys.

The keys have been coming with the plastic sleeve since 2007. I don't remember anyone reporting that they have worn one out.

Carrying keys...
This has haunted me, for the five years that I've owned Spyders.
The "Insurance Guy" in me; says that the scabbard has to eventually wear itself loose..
So I tried one of Lamont's I.P.S. "key-Hiders"...
Again; the "Insurance Guy" just couldn't leave a key in the bike... :yikes:
I tried leather and rubber covers for the keys, that you could put a keyring through: they just seemed... loose-fitting, and a bit bulky.
I always knew about drilling the keys, but had resisted... right up until I actually SAW one of the chips!
I worried that moisture would seep in through the hole that was drilled, and ruin the chip. :barf:
That just can't happen; the chips are encased in a plastic cover, and can't be bothered by moisture or dirt...
So I drilled mine, and have, "lived happily ever after..." :D

I am still using :ani29: keys in the OEM configuration. My spares are always in the scabbards. I do not dangle them from a key chain, but they go into my pocket. Never found a loose key.

The skeptic in me has prevented from drilling or hiding them in an IPS. Always afraid that someone "in the know" could drive off with the :spyder2:.

I did leave the actual key in one :ani29: overnight in a hotel parking lot--front row--and it was still there in the morning. Got lucky--and do not plan on that move again.
