• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spelling

His battle with dyslexia often manifested itself in the oddest ways...

(And apologies to anyone who suffers from it...)

Incorrect spelling, punctuation, and using incorrect words irk the crap out of me too, but I ignore it on a public forum. I cringe in the privacy of my own home. The only time I would point it out is if I were teasing someone, or if the post was by someone on their high horse, calling someone else ignorant, and being nasty. Then I would most happily point out their own ignorance.

However, one thing that has been happening with a great deal of frequency lately is the number of books that are released with such errors. I think that if you publish, you should have a proofreader. And don't get me started on newspapers!

I also agree that all caps, really large letters, multiple fonts and colors can be a bit jarring, and really makes the post more difficult to read. But I am guilty of using all caps sometimes when I am at work, because my main program uses all caps, and I am too lazy to continually switch all day.

As for me, I am decent with spelling and grammar, but my fingers are incredibly clumsy creatures, and hit the wrong keys all the time.

See folks, we have had an interesting and amusing discussion. It does not appear that we ticked to many people off or drove anyone off the site over this.

I guess I'm just old school. Spelling mistakes bother me. Here are several I have seen the past several months that bug me a lot.

Break vs brake - Break is when you bust something. Brake is what you actuate with your foot to come to a stop. Spell check is dumb. It doesn't know the difference.

Tie vs tye - Tie means to join. Tye, well it ain't the right spelling!

Heard and herd - Heard is what happens when sound tickles your ear drum and your brain interprets it. Herd is a bunch of cows!

Ryde and ride - As long as we're talking Spyders, I'll accept ryde. Any other brand, you better use ride. Don't want to insult your Spyder, do you?

Reel and real - Reel is what you have on your fishing pole. Real is what ain't fake!

I may add more as I come across them!

Spelling errors have been ramping up again lately. :banghead:

4

One of my favorites is the number four...We spell the number 4, "four" until we count to forty, then we change it for????

The whole (hole) spelling thing needs revamped...

I don't know how to spell 4 but I know how to pronounce it ( I get off work at foe, when I gets home I open the doe and walk across the flo ) I could go on but I lost my thought

I can live with the occasional spelling error . . . we all make them (or at least I do!) But punctuation and capitalization are totally different stories. :lecturef_smilie: Catastrophic things can occur without correct punctuation and capitalization.

Take the phrase "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse."

With incorrect punctuation and no capitalization, it becomes a terrible . . . and quite possibly, illegal thing:

"I helped my uncle jack off a horse". :yikes:
