• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spelling

Spelling and words

I found this thread interesting. I have been speaking English for most of seventy plus years, at first I only spoke goo! goo! Gaa! and WaaaaH!!!.

My 86 year old mother-in-law speaks three languages and my wife of unspecified age speaks two. We sometimes discuss the difficulty of the English language. I have heard it said that English, spoken as Americans speak it, is the most difficult language on earth to learn.

In a forum like this one, I have no problem with misspelling and incorrect usage. People here are communicating with peers, as if speaking.

If we are talking face to face we don't know if the speaker knows how to spell what they say.

My pet peeve in this area is reading something that was written for publication, usually compensated, that hasn't been proofed. If you are being paid to write, you really should take the time to read and correct spelling and word usage.

But, that's just me. :banghead:

SpyderLovers.com was set up to help us better enjoy our new Spyders. I registered when we got our new 2008 GS SE5. We were glad to have a place to search for help with our Spyders. How one spelled a word wasn't as important as what one had to say. Many, myself included, sponged up as much as we could...knowing that one day on a trip, something we read could be the key to get us back home. If you're looking for perfection, you may want to consider finding a site with more perfect grammar. If you want to criticize us for the way we spell you are wasting your time trying and our time if we read your post.

I've been taking this thread as just good natured fun and teasing each other. If I'm wrong, that will be a new experience for me. I've never been wrong previously. Seriously. Never.

:roflblack: :2thumbs: :roflblack:
I once read an article that mentioned it was possible to "read" a paragraph, even if every word was scrambled; as long as the first and last letters were in the right places...
We may find ourselves putting that to the test in here once in a while, but at least we're having fun! :D

While I will admit to a certain level of angst over my spelling, I don't find it necessary to be like some of the spelling Nazis on some forums who delight in pointing out the mistakes of others, usually with a few spelling errors of their own in the reply use to chastize. I have developed a acronym for those types:

Annoyingly
Superior
S**ts
Hollering
Over
Lackadaisical
English
Spelling

Boy, that one was bugging me for a while. Glad I could finally get that off my chest! I'm not pointing fingers, but just a habit some of us old retired military folks like to do. I lived with acronyms for 23 + years and I do miss being able to carry on a conversation without using words that civilians can't follow. :)

WOW. Great acronym!

I usually try to spell things correctly but I am sure I have made a few of those mistakes. I do know the difference but sometimes type too fast and a quick check it looks good so I press send. But at least I try!

Finally there are always "spelling cops" on forums. Everyone has their quirks about one thing or another and for some it is about spelling... When I get spell checked by the spelling police, I just let it roll off the shoulder... But I have seen some pretty bad arguments over it on other forums. That really should not happen.

BUT... one of my quirks is posts THAT ARE ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS, 18 different colors, and punctuation overload. I cant just barely stand to read posts like that and usually don't. Makes my eyes go screwy! Not going to name names on that one but WOA...... Those are hard to read ;)
