Speaker Issue - distortion at Hwy speeds. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone. At highway speeds my wife finds the sound from the rear speakers hard to listen too. Very distorted at high volume and painful on the ears. Can anyone suggest any good speaker upgrades? Maybe a good amp and front speaker upgrade as well to enhance the overall sound quality. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would say it's the volume required to overcome road and vehicle noise is too much for the current speakers. Increasing power to the current speakers with an amp isn't going to help. You can get in helmet speakers that won't take nearly as much volume. Or, you'll have to look for an upgrade. If it were me, I'd go to a place that does this kind of work. They stay up on what is current and works well.

I did some research into what Spyder you have .... a 2014 RT-S .... I have the same, but the basic version.... we share the same radio/speaker system .... I swapped my OEM speakers for JBL - 2 ohm models, I love them .... I get great sound even at 85 mph from both front and rear ....those speakers are no longer available .... however KICKER makes a 5.25in 2 ohm model in a Marine grade speaker .... another member here just put them in His RT ..... and no additional Amp is needed .... I like the helment type myself! That way at 4 oclock in the morning going to work I am not waking up the dead heads still in bed!!:2thumbs:

I totally agree! Why "share" your music with the public? Especially at low speed or at a stop light, some motorcycle riders blast their music, just like some cars, which can be obnoxious.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. By any chance would you happen to know the model of those Kicker speakers?

" Goldenspyder " found Kicker Marine speakers mod. # 10PS5250 .... they are 5.25in. .... I Highly recommend changing ALL four - Why ??? ... because if you don't the Bad OEM speakers are the ones that will ruin the sound.... If you can't do this right away you can cancel the OEM pair by going into the " preferences " and cancel them..... For swapping the rear speakers, the hole needs to be enlarged to 4 5/8th in. ... I cut a 4 5/8 Hole in a piece of cardboard .... to make a disc / template.... put that over the oem hole and trace it to get it centered ..... good luck .... Mike

Thanks for the model number. Does it make much of a difference if the speakers are 2 ohm or 4 ohm?

Even tho my next statement will cause apoplexy for some folks here ... This what I learned .... going from 4 ohm ( oem speakers ) to 2 ohm models , effectively doubles the out-put of the head ( ie.radio ) unit.... my 2 OHM JBL's produce much louder sound , and is also clear / clean ..... I would guess the Kicker's will do the same..... It is generally Not Recommended to mix the OHM rating on speakers ..... Mike
