• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ok question basic engine likes /dislikes, looking for back up gas on trips & to my understanding this should not hurt (for very limited tempary use only,get me to station)

fyi is 94 octane & can is stronger/less likly to spill. Have nossle off older gas can fits better than a funnel to pour into bike. I have few new & few empty, can refill. What do you the experts think? Redneck Thx in advance:cheers:

Stuff is designed for 2 stroke motors. You put it in your tank the oil doesn't burn.... it fouls spark plugs. You have a 4 stroke engine. There is non-ethanol gas available at the box stores for use in 4 stroke lawn mowers and it won't hurt to use although no octane rating is on the stuff and it is probably lower than what is recommended for a Spyder.

Do Not Use A Premix for your spyder, Lowes (& probably Home Depot) has a 92 octane no ethanol in quart cans just like that for emergency use.

I do plan but enjoy finding unexpected extras while im out:2thumbs:. & rather not risk it thx. Not a nessity item on trip just an idea I wanted opnions. Thx everyone
 
WAY OUT IDEA

Liquor bottles are made to contain alcohol without dripping , or smelling etc., so after finishing a 750 ml bottle of Sauza Tequila I saved the bottle because it was rectangular in shape and fit perfectly in the side of my trunk with a bracket I riveted on...............I know it's glass yada yada etc........but it doesn't smell........and gives me 10 miles to find a gas station if I need it..............I mean people are carrying 1 qt. of oil for a Spyder that never needs oil ( 1330 Ace engine ).......................just a thought .............Mike :thumbup:
 
If you feel a need to carry emergency fuel, I suggest an MSR bottle. It's metal, and is designed to carry fuel for backpackers and campers. I carried two in my Unigo trailer towed by my Goldwing on many cross country rides through the southwest after running out of fuel on Rt 93 just short of Hoover Dam one year. There are now several gas stations on that stretch of road, running out of fuel becomes less likely every year.

& no I will NOT be putting premixed in tank. I will however fill my emptys will whatever I have in my tank, next fill up. Thanks again everyone for all the input. :thumbup:
 
Planning is always a good idea. Anyone ever ride in New Mexico or the 4 Corners region on the weekend. That filling station you had planned on topping off at won't be open till Tuesday? There are places where there is a lot more than 150 miles between fueling stops if you are off the main roads and the availability of gas isn't something that can easily be planned. Last time I rode t his area, my buddy was on a Vulcan with a 3.5 gallon tank and I was on a Venture and I ended up carrying a syphon hose and a spare gas can. Sometimes, plans don't work as planned and the good Lord laughs and you can sit by the side of the road. Not sure a quart is all that helpful because I can easily walk a quart's worth but a gallon in one of those spare gas cans might do the trick in an emergency. The real answer is better gas mileage and a 10 gallon tank.
 
You can buy cans of 91 octane fuel in sealed cans. We bought some a while back. It has a very long self life and the cans are sealed for transport. Lowes and Home Depot sell them for trimmers. Grey can is nolead. Stuff is crystal clear and burns well in the spyder. We take a can along on long trips...just in case.

That should be safe enough to use... I'd be cautious about how much use you give it. If the threading on the bottle and cap get worn; you'll have the potential for vapors and leaks. :shocked:
 
IMHO carrying gas in a non-approved container is an "accident waiting to happen" if you carry gas in a container .. better think about carrying a fire extinguisher ...
