• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sounds like a dumb question but I dont know any of you so Ill ask anyway. lol

So growing up I was never around dirt bikes, atvs, motorcycles, etc. It was always boats and jet skis. Therefore I have never learned to ride anything with a manual tranny. I plan on buying a SM5 because I want to learn and I have a buddies from work that said theyd help me figure it out and I would pick it up easily. But can someone give me a simple rundown of how a manual works. Sounds silly, but I just never have needed to learn. I know you guys can help. thanks

The shift lever is located near your left foot toe.. To shift you engage clutch (with left hand) and push down on shift lever with your foot to downshift or lift up with your toe to upshift. To Shift into reverse you push a Button marked R by your left hand before downshifting from 1st... Thats about all there is to it... of course you let off the throttle when shifting...

Do yourself a favor and learn from the Pros. Take the Motorcycle Saftey Foundation Beginner Rider Course. You'll learn a lot more than how to shift the motorcycle. You'll learn how to scan the road for potential hazards. You will learn skills that will apply to the Spyder. Heck, in some places you can qualify for the "M" on your license taking the BRC on the Spyder. Hunt around. There may be courses like that near you!

:welcome: Hope you get your Spyder soon!! You will love it!!

:agree::agree::agree: Riding is a lot more than shifting, take the MSF course, learn to ride safe.

Dumb Question

Kyle,
A lot of what you write sounds like me. I waited until I was 60 to learn how to ride a motorcycle. First, I would take the MSF course and then the trike safety course. After completing the courses I would purchase a Spyder with the SE5 transmission. I think that you would find that just as enjoyable to ride.
