There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Sound system keeps going in and out - any suggestions

2011 RT - the sound system keeps cutting in and out (popping static noise when it does it), sometimes for a second or up to several seconds. This occurs at least every few minutes. I have had this issue for months and have tried with just headset, no headset, speakers turned off and headset only and it still happens. This effects everything, radio, XM, CB and IPOD. At one point it seemed to be linked to the throttle as when I gave it more throttle it would cut out and when releasing the throttle system would come back on. That seemed to go away and then I thought it was when I hit a large bump in the road, but that only happens once in a while currently. There seems to be no common factor when this happens, used to be only after riding about an hour, but now it can happen within minutes of riding. I have come to the conclusion that the unit is bad and it is not a loose wire or bad speaker or? I would value any input before I take it to the dealer as it is still under warranty.

Mine cuts in and out when first started but it stays on after the 1st few minutes. Makes me wonder if its just a bad ground or the radio itself. 12 RT

IMHO....the list of could be's on this is very long and your are very fortunate it's still under warranty........I think the dealer is going to have to figure this one out .........Mike ......good luck

I agree 100% and was hoping someone else has experienced this as I see this being a long drawn out experience at the dealer.

I've had virtually no radio reception (on FM anyway) since the bike was new...
It'll go back to the dealer in the Spring, for some serious peeking under her skirts. :D
Until then; it's been XM, and the I-Pod!:ohyea::yes:

My 12 RT does the same thing. It doesn't happen every time I start it, more of a random thing. I had the dealer look at it while it was under warranty. He said he fixed it, it was because I had the GPS wired to the wrong spot. Two years later it still does it now and then.

RADIO ISSUES

Well here's another thought ....BRP puts the antennae into the connection with a lot of " thread locker "....I doubt that this stuff improves the electrical conductivity between the antennae and it's receptacle........After mine broke, I put in a 3 ft. collapsible one that uses the direct wire connector to the radio.....I get excellent Radio reception.....good luck....Mike

With this discription sounds eletrical, vibration from throttle or bumps affecting a loose connection. If under warranty, demand proof of fix, not just a quick test " See it works fine" kind of thing. It affects all speaker produced sound could be simply in the amp. I have had problems on other vehicles like that. Good test is dont crank bike, only play music & try to not max volume dot wanna blow speakers too. Good luck

Perhaps I'll try removing the antenna, and cleaning all of the thread locker off. If I add a saw-toothed washer; do you think that would hold it in place? :dontknow:

Bob I can't remember how much of a base there was on the bottom of the antennae , you might have to put a tight fitting reg. washers on top to engage the teeth so to speak........or only put a very small amount of blue locker at the very last bit of threads after cleaning the rest......so when you thread it in most of the threads are clean......Mike  .. ..PS , it's a 7mm socket , if you have a deep one that will be a big help in removing the antennae

Unscrewing antenna for storage

Quick question, I'd like to unscrew the whip portion of the antenna when I park it so I don't poke my eye out as I walk by it I garage. Does the whip unscrew from the base easy enough or is it more involved?

MAYBE

As stated above , if you have a 7 mm deepwell socket and a vise-grip .....it will un- screw.......however BRP's very liberal use of thread locker can make it difficult......When you put it back on, I recommend cleaning all the threads and then only putting a small amount on the very LAST ones on the antennae before screwing it in. I think overuse of the thread locker can interfere with reception...............Mike

Interesting..!!

From your explanation of the problem being motion cause..throttle , bumps, etc it would seem (hopefully) a connection problem. Possibly a backedout pin in a gang plug or unseated connection. Radio related would doubt it is anywhere else or you would have other problems. If you can follow the wires and jiggle and wiggle them you could eliminate or find the problem...

Found the problem

I never thought it could be the GPS that was installed by dealer when new. I did have an issue with the GPS loosing the 12V power every once in a while and would sometimes loose it long enough to shut down, I believe about 30 seconds. They replaced the harness about a year ago and solved that problem. I turned off the GPS today and the sound system went totally static and no reception on anything. Turned it back on and everything played, finally decided to just remove it from the bracket and PROBLEM SOLVED. I rode for several hours and no interference at all. Thanks for the tip, this will really help when taking it back to the dealer.
