• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Something to check if you have Battery drain issue

This is a pretty simple test that doesn't require BUDS to check.

Looks like I need to go back to my dealer. Thanks Lamont for the information. .103 drain with full battery and key off.

Lamont.... Great info.. a question now, how did you come by checking the audio circuit for power drainage?? curious mind would like to know.

Was it from a service bulliten?

Your dealer will be able to look this up. It was just posted today.

I wonder why my RSS is draining just as my 2008 GS did. I always put a battery tender on my RSS after going through 2 batteries on the GS.

So ... how long will the battery last at this rate before it needs a charge ... or won't start? The spec says it's a "21 amps/hour" battery.

Inquiring minds ...

In theory, a 21 amp hour battery draining at the rate of 0.103 amps would last 203+ hours, or about 8.5 days. In reality, it will last less. First, once below a certain voltage threshold, it will not operate the Spyder's systems some time before it is completely dead, so the entire 21 amp hours may not be useable. Second, a battery's capacity deteriorates with time, so while a fresh battery may have 21 amp hours or more of capacity, an older battery could have less. Finally, this is not the only current draw on a Spyder. The computers, clock, etc., have a tiny draw, so there is more than 0.103 amps likely being drawn overall.

:agree:

So I did

I have been experiencing a battery drain issue and what do you know, this post pops up. Here is my ammeter reading and I have already dropped a copy of Lamont's post along with an ammeter photo at my dealer. Took them totally by surprise. Well, why not we were surprised as well. I left the fuse out and will let Spyder sit for a few days while doing other maintenance to see if reluctant starting problem clears up. Just this week, I had left the tender off for a few days and didn't see any voltage drop. When I started it yesterday, it barely did so, display went nuts, and it spit and fumed like a cold VW. So now we shall see.

I'm so hoping that this solves you problem. I know it has been frustrating for you.
Best of luck and keep us posted!! ;)

My battery lasts about 2 weeks so I just tested and sure enough, .06 milliamps. Going to the dealer this weekend for rough idle, I will get him on to this while he is at it.

Dang, it never ends.

Module

In the process of my tire change away from my home dealer I casually mentioned the drain issue as discussed here. Told them where to look on the BRP site and what was expected. Didn't give it another thought until they called me yesterday and informed me that BRP agrees with their readings (which I didn't know they took) and authorized the radio module replacement. Heap big suprise, will be fixed soon and maybe that will be the end of this drain saga, well at least for me. Great to find folks that are taking the initiative and customer focused.
