There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. SOLO RIDERS.... HELP...! ! !
Last May i rode from SC to UT and back with a life-long friend... just the 2 of us... we met up with many SOLO RIDERS on all different types of bikes, and their stories were quite intriguing...

this year my pal can't make a long ride because of other commitments - he's a contractor... so i'm thinking about a
SOLO RIDE to Arizona to visit with another SYPD3R rider, BIG BIRD...

would anyone that has experience in
long-range-solo-riding give me some tips for saving $$ at hotels, and what tools/spare parts i should carry with me, etc... also, if you know of any 'good stops', such as tourist attractions i'd appreciate that info too... If it helps you to know my intended route; i'll be hooking up to Rt. 82 just outside of Birmingham, AL and riding it into NM... stopping in Roswell to visit with some of my distant relatives, the aliens... then truck'n on down to Tucson to visit Davis-Monthan AFB and walk thru the military aircraft 'junk yard'... from there i'll head into Pheonix then to BIG BIRD in Golden Valley, AZ.... from there, most likely i'll head northeast and find my way to Sparefish, SD to visit with another friend... then back to Easley, SC via a stop at the Corvette Assembly plant in Kentucky, then HOME....

I'm figuring no less than 4 weeks... tell me if I'm wrong in any of this...

thanx in advance for your help....

ride

I have road some of the rout u r going to take. In southern NM go to Carlsbad Caverns and in southern AZ go to Tombstone. If you get a chance visit the Grand Canyon, I think the North side is the best but that is just my opinion.
I look for small out of the way Motels that are clean and do laundry as needed. Hope this helps some.

I did a lot of that. couple ideas, Join AAA for guide books, possible "towing" (Different plans), Cell phone with charger, Join a couple "hotel plans". I used ChoiceHotels. You can call from a location and get a cheap room that day. they also have stay X nights and get a free night. Think about internet for help along the help if needed or joining up with other spyder lovers. If you are retired Military, check about staying on base/post at BOQ. Very low rates.
Most of all have fun. If you see something interesting stop and look.

Assuming you're a guy, truck stops have clean rooms and good food for a decent price. Hubby and I stayed at them many times. Were able to chat with truckers coming from where we were going and get the condition of the road and weather ahead. From what the truckers say, we would change our route accordingly. Missed some places we wanted to go, but found awesome roads only the truckers know about.

La Quinta hotels also have good rates depending where you are.

Solo riding is cool! You start when you want to, stop when you want to, eat what you want to, and watch on TV what you want to. It cleans the mind. Have go solo at least once to know what it's all about.

Basic tools, zip ties and a credit card (depending on your mechanical skills) will do you well.

Carlsbad and the Grand Canyon are both within your reach...

AAA is good advice and I save way more on hotels using it than it costs me per year.

You can get some very good deals on hotels via things like Priceline or Hotwire. It works well for something like this where you may not be sure where you are going to be the next day. Get some good same day deals (I use it a lot when traveling).

A good book we are using for making vacation plans is "Road Trip USA", there are a lot of neat ideas in there.

Get a SPOT and have some family member of friend track your progress.

Unfortunately, the touring forums often have posts of "Help...Have you seen so and so ? He was last seen heading south from St Louis"

Hi Dan,
Solo riding isn't really all that much different; the conversations just don't last as long when you stop for meals! :D
Seriously; If you can set it up, so that your family can track you along the way...
Keep a list of personal information in your pocket; just in case emergency personnel need to know more about you than outward appearances can tell.
Set yourself some reasonable daily mileage goals, and enjoy getting as far as you do each day! :2thumbs:

spyder riders to the rescue

Look on this site top right hand of the home page. There is a list of :spyder2:r riders that are willing to help :spyder2: phone numbers and what they have available (trailers tools that sort of thing. Print the list and bring it with you, could help in a pinch. Ride on and have a ball.

WOW...! ! !

WOW-O-WOW...! ! !
THANX everyone.... much good info here...
i am an AAA member (they don't service motorcycle of any kind, unless you buy the optional package), i have a SCALA G9 for communicating with wife... and i'll redraw my route to pick up on some of the locations mentioned above...
 what a wonderful bunch of people we have on this website...

So tell us all a little bit more about the trip!
When do you leave?
How many miles per day are you looking at? (tentatively!)
What sites along the way have already picqued your interest?

By joining travel America, which is I think $35/year, you will be able to stay at people's private houses' and pay them $20 per night. This usually includes breakfast and a guide to local sites. Let us know what turns out. Safe ryding.:clap:

Solo Rydes Rock

In September I celebrated my 70th birthday by taking a 3000+ solo ryde I called "My Meet My Systers Adventure". My goal was to meet as many of my Girls On Spyders Systers I could. I started by going to Daytona and had lunch with 6 Systers I had never met before. The next day a dozen or so Systers had a welcoming party for me in Savanah. Spent the night there and headed to N.C. Escorted part of the way by a group of Star Motorcycle Riders from SC. Headed North alone to another Syster that I had previously met and spent the night. Then to east NC where I met a new Syster and rode the outer banks. Left three days later to head west to Maggie Valley to ryde with a couple of other new Systers. Spent 3 days there just ryding all the awesome rydes before heading to Indiana to visit some relatives. Then I headed south and met two more Systers on the way home. When I needed a motel I just stopped and asked at a fuel stop for directions to a nearby clean, safe place. I was never disappointed with their choices. I spent most of the ryde alone with just my GPS, that was set for no interstates, and the addresses of my Systers already loaded. I carried a S & W P-38, a basic tool kit, a quart of oil, a small bicycle pump, the SL Help list, a small first aid kit, and my AAA Motorcycle card. Luckily, I used only the addresses. This was a life changing adventure for me. It was the bravest thing I have ever done and now I can't wait for 2015 to do another adventure, this time heading west! Enjoy your ryde! I'm jealous.

Good luck on your trip and hope all the miles are safe and uneventful. Half the fun is in the planning and the anticipation.

Instead of the S&W P-38, would a Kel-Tek PF-9 be OK...? i also carry a gt. of oil, and basic tools other than what BRP furnishes with the SPYD3R... I have a very small DC pump & a tire patch kit... and my phone has all the latest 'apps' for hotels, navigation, dinning, etc....
and y r u wait'n until 2015...? saddle up and head out this yr... AGAIN, thank you all for your input...

if nothing gets in the way of this ride... i will update y'all as i ride... thx, be safe n be happy...

I can remember FIFTY-FIVE years ago THIS MONTH I was in the St. Louis Corvette assembly plant, building the 1959 models. I was pulled off the line and tasked with sprucing the place up with a little fresh paint in preparation for a club of Corvette enthusiasts coming in for a plant tour.

Didn't I see you in that group? :roflblack:
