There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. So what are you doing to get ready for the Homecoming?

I have a lot of little detail stuff I've been doing on my Spyder to get ready for this trip. I'm just about done and pretty happy with all my mods now. :doorag: So what are you guys doing? What are you packing?

Well,
Just checked my tire pressure and it was a bit low so I am going to remember to check that all along the way to keep mpg at its best. Both bjt and I will do a practice pack to see if we need any more "luggage". bjt is thinking about saddlebags for his Spyder as well. We should have our windshields in and installed to make the trip more pleasant. I have my Throttlemeister and he has a wrist rest thing (don't know what it is called) We are talking about getting me a Tourmaster jacket like bjt's as it is waterproof and then I wouldn't have to carry extra rain gear, also I think we are going to look at the riding pants that go with it this weekend. I am not going to pack any dress clothes, they will have to accept me in my jeans, but I will clean up for dinner. I plan to pack relatively light overall, this is only a 4 day trip for us, leaving on Thursday and back by Sunday. Other than the one night at Chateau Bromont, we plan on staying very cheap if possible at a clean roadside motel on Thursday night and Sat. night on the way home. So I guess wear one pair of jeans, pack one, clean shirts, clean undergarments and toiletries and we should be ready to go. Of course, if I don't pack my makeup and curling iron and hairspray, bjt would be disappointed. LOL If you can think of anything else we should do to prepare, let us know, this will be our first big trip and we will take any tips from more experienced bike travelers.

Just changed the oil at 3,320 miles. Going to add: highway boards and mirror extenders. The front storage compartment and my Seal Line waterproof Zip Duffle 75 liter should hold everything I want to take with me. For quick access, I have my HELD Scotty tank bag. Will bring my stock windshield in case I find I want to swap out my Marcel F1 - - will depend on what kind of weather we run into. Will definetely put the baffle back in my REMUS since Americade has a noise law. Since I'm going to extend my trip I'll pack a few extra jeans & socks but not as many shirts as I'll plan on doing the tourist thing and buying some T's at Americade and in Canada!! Of course, must remember the camera and the binoculars. Since I can't be seperated from my notebook computer for too long, it will tag along also as well as my tunes, GPS, etc to work with my J&M Integratr. May add a CB radio to it before I leave. Maps, can't forget the maps (even with a GPS, you can't do without them). If you've never used "Monkey Butt" powder, you should look into it. When I first heard of it I thought it was a joke but the stuff really works!!

I'll throw in my multi tool, small syphon hose, tire patch kit, cycle jumper cables (for the other guy), first aid kit and small weather radio. I always ride with a few extra fuses, small amt of duct tape and a piece of wire. Lets see - since I'm on a roll .... extras: face shield (dark), key, cash, glasses and good attitude (nothing's going to ruin this trip!)

Great idea for a thread, Lamont. ... I'm anxious to read others ideas.

I don't know how many time I've done this but don't forget your cell phone charger! :redfaced:

Okay, we need to start an official list. Now you have me thinking. I always bring my laptop too so that was kind of a given. I will not forget my cell phone cord Lamonster and if I do, I have a spare that plugs into the computer. We also have our Integratrs and the GPS and the tunes, and two way radios, don't forget that charger. Camera for sure and binoculars are a great idea. I am thinking of ordering the beaded seats to avoid "Monkey Butt" Nancy's Toy mentioned them once and I will have to find the website again. Here it is, sounds interesting. http://www.beadrider.com/ Dark face shield for sure. I probably won't worry about changing out Marcel's windsheild, I'll keep it on. Just one more thing to pack if I try to bring the original touring as well. Thanks for all the hints, keep the ideas coming guys. We will get this list perfect before we leave.

One more thing, after watching wijllie's video I think I will pack my video camera as well.

I'm hoping that my Evolution II and dltang's F1 windshield comes in next week so we can get some quality time in with them on the expressway. I have been avoiding the expressway for anything longer than 7 miles or so because I don't care for the beating that the wind gives me at speeds over 70 MPH. Hence, I think we could use just a little more expressway riding experience before making a long trip like that. I would mainly like to find out if we should allot more time to the ride to account for longer rest breaks or if the new windscreens will make those speeds more comfortable.

ps. After seeing dltang's packing list, I am going to have to get them saddle bags to help carry all the stuff we will probably be taking. I how I would like a lamonster's trailer right about now. ;D

:spyder:

Ha, ha, ha, ..... Oh yea .... the cell phone charger. Don't worry, if you forget yours, I'll bring the extra ones with me that I've bought when I got to where I was going and realized I had forgotten it!! Good one, Lamont. I agree with the idea of making a list .. someone with time on their hands hopefully will compile it in a neat grouping and we can add to it as we go?! Any volunteers?

Actually, I have tried the beaded seats, but don't have enough natural padding. Some riders swear by them, though. I use an Alaska Leathers sheepskin. Great stuff! Haven't needed it on the Spyder as yet, though. Have traveled about 90 miles without getting off, and felt fine. Never said that about any other motorcycle! Pardon me if I get a bit personal, here, but to keep away the dreaded Monkey Butt, I wear polypropylene undies. I choose Under Armour, but there are others. They work incredibly well for me. The sheepskin is just to keep my buns from hurting.

For a good packing list, which can be customized, try http://micapeak.com/checklists/mclist.html. Best one I've found, especially for bike camping. Used it this weekend for the first camping expedition with the Spyder.

Well, Scotty's web link was pretty comprehensive but I thought I would go ahead and make a list of what members here have already come up with. As people add ideas, I will modify the list and add to it. For those not going to Valcour, but you've had experience with bike travel for long distance, please feel free to chime in. Thank you to everyone.

Thanks v e r y much for these lists, everybody!

I kept rereading them and saying out loud, "Yikes, I forgot about that, too!"

Though I do have to curse just about member of this site, since, if I had never started reading spyderlovers.com, I probably wouldn't have purcha$ed:

a windshield, rear rack, highway mounts, seat cover, pegs, adapters, new bulbs, hats, tank bag, saddlebags, handlebar riser, spiderweb grill, monoshock cover, mirror extensions... A curse on you! A curse on you all! :joke:

(Hmmm...Hindle or micron, Hindle or Micron...)

NancysToy's post got me a little anxious ("...or CASH! for an EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT!!??!)

So I ordered short term insurance through MedEx online for both of us. Took aboout five minutes and they immediately emailed our insurance cards.

http://www.medexassist.com/

I'm sure there may be cheaper ones, but, well, $28 for some piece of mind is not bad.

Thanks for the advice!

Here's another little tip.

I found that a long trip will bring out the demons on any mod you have done. If you added pegs they will come loose, if you changed anything be sure to bring the tools to fix it.

When I went to Daytona on the Spyder my Widow pegs came loose and I had to buy a wrench set to fix it and even then I had to find a real thin socket to get it real tight. My breather that I put on worked fine at home but started to vent oil all over the motor when it got pass the filter. I had to buy a hose and a knife to fix that. ::) When I hooked up my GPS I had to buy some tape and zipties to fix a loose connection. :redfaced:

All these things worked fine running around the house, the trips is what brings out the problems. If you did a mod be prepared to fix it on the road. :doorag:
