• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

so now that most people have stopped riding

i figured i would start this tread. over the years most of us have had a few jobs, some were really good, and some of them were the worst we ever had. i was talking with another retired electrician on Saturday, and it is what gave me this idea.
in my years of working in construction doing electrical work, i had one really FANTASTIC JOB, and two jobs i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. THE BEST ONE was, i was a foremen in the same building for 10 years, and had between 5 and 30 people working for me. i quit that job after 10 years because i was thick headed, and i was not giving in over a raise i wanted. BAD MOVE ON MY PART.

THE TWO WORST ONES WERE, Presbyterian children's hospital on 168th street in upper Manhattan. where i was doing work, i had to walk through the children's ward. i never had kids, but i do enjoy seeing them have a good time. going through the ward, i would see kids with no hair from chemo, and purple marks on them to show where the radiation had to be given. I LASTED 3 DAYS THERE, i told the boss i couldn't see the kids like that, and he moved me to another job. it broke my heart seeing them like that.

THE OTHER WORST JOB WAS a sewage treatment plant in starret city, in Brooklyn NY. i lasted 9 days there. there were signs everywhere that said things like, don't rub your eyes, don't pick your nose, always wear gloves when working, if splashed with anything, seek medical attention right away, and the best was DON'T FEED ANY ANIMALS YOU SEE ON THE GROUNDS. there was one section that was called the bar screen area, the raw sewage would come into the plant, pass through the bars that would catch large garbage, then a large rake would rise up the bars and take the large pieces of garbage up and out into a dumpster. after all the junk it was taking out, when a arm came up, and they shut down the job to investigate, that was it, i refused to work there any more, and they let me go.

i have tones of stories i could tell, but they were the worse. it would be interesting to see what other have to say

Thanks for what can be a very interesting discussion!
My Best job: the one that I've done for over 38 years...
My worst job: the same one!

It depends on the day... :dontknow:

When you worked at the sewage treatment plant: did they feed you lunch??? :barf::barf:

never ate lunch there, and washed so much after work, i hated it

Tough one...

Have liked all the jobs I have had on both continents in both languages. I would have to say I only found people I did not like but always left my jobs for a move and never for a dislike. I would say wrenching at my shop and others was my favorite along with remodeling cause I depended on myself ...

All my jobs had good and bad qualities.

My current job as a owner of a lawn care property management co, is some of the stupid stuff customers say, or ask me to do.

Driving truck, well seeing the sights, meeting new people all the time, were the good times. Dealing with idiots on the road and a head on collision( other drivers fault) that left 4 dead, sucked...

I just can't top that. I 'm just a humble 21 year navy veteran, postal rural carrier, marine electrician. I just enjoyed the best times. God Bless and Glory to God.

I can't say I've ever had a job I truly hated. I've been blessed in my career to be successful at something I truly enjoy doing. I'm currently managing a team of software engineers that build apps for smartphones and tablets.

Worst job was working in a junk yard one summer while in high school. Some of the things I did was build a big fire out of scrap pallets and when it got good and hot throw a bunch of alternator and starter armatures in there to burn off the insulation, then I had to put on asbestos gloves and rummage around in the hot ashes and pull them out. Then I'd take them to a HUGE lathe, had about a 20" diameter chuck on it with no brake on it. I'd turn them down to cut off the copper. The second or third day the old man came in yelling at me I wasn't doing it fast enough because I'd wait for the chuck to stop spinning before I'd try to get the armature out. He said "just put your hand on the chuck and stop it with your hand" I quit. That thing would have ripped your arm off without slowing one RPM. OSHA would have had a fit there.
I've had a lot of good jobs, I supervised an in house print shop for an architectural and engineering firm that was great, but the best is the one I have now.
RETIRED!

my Worst Job..........KN Natural Gas......right out of the Navy, Oct. 1981.
Started as apprentice, Sharon Springs Ks. Small town real nice, about to buy a home there..
Bosses nephew gets out of Army, needs a job, I am TWO days from the end of my
probationary period..... and I am gone ! I was really good at that job too.

my Best Job...... Either the time I spent in the Navy, or what I am doing right now.......agricultural activity.
my Wife always told me to tell people THAT if they asked, "not retired, they'll think you're a layabout"

I guess I consider myself lucky. I am still in my dream job at 70+. A college professor teaching a couple accounting courses per semester. Retired from two Finance Director jobs which I did for the final eleven years of my full time employment. Also retired from retail store management for 29 years. Had a couple "in-between" jobs, but they were just from one transition to the other. The worst job was as an accountant for a crook. It took me a couple months to figure that out and I was out of there. When I was doing advanced income tax accounting, guess who popped up in my research, and for tax evasion? :roflblack::roflblack:

I worked in a steel mill for 28 years. Owned my own motorcycle business for awhile. Had my own Massage Therapy practice for 10 years, Managed a Fazoli's Restaurant, did mortgages for awhile, head operator in a fiberglass manufacturing plant, retired a couple of times, now working as a case manager for a mental health counseling center. All that and my degree is in Spanish and Law enforcement.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

I've had a lot of jobs in my life. Some were better than others. I always thought I would tackle any kind of job and could learn and function at just about anything. The best thing I learned at some of the jobs was that I should in no way be in that line of work! :lecturef_smilie: Like sales, fast food management, insurance. I think my best job was in business systems analysis; I discovered there was a job just for the way I naturally think.

I've always liked the jobs i had throughout my life as a worker! But none like the one i have right now!
RETIRED! :yes::yes:

Blessed

Best job? Green Beret; US ARMY SPECIAL FORCES. Worst job? Green Berets don't have bad jobs! Every job since has been fine. Nobody shooting at you makes every job a walk in the park!! If you think your job sucks, see if incoming fire (bullets) might make you see a different perspective! Just Sayin.....😄😄😄
