So many complaints about the Spyders. Anyone with no problems?

I have 33K with a reframe and everything from the swingarm on back being replaced on mine and the only problem I have had is that cages and deer keep on hitting it and trying to take it out.

Wifey was the latest offender, hit it backing her car into the garage, luckily all she did was split some plastic pieces.

I swear this Spyder is cursed when it comes to having objects stay away from it.

I have jokingly said when telling people that I don't need to worry about bleeding the brakes because it gets done with every accident repair.

Parking brake motor replaced under warranty at 1 year, nothing else through almost 88,500 mi.

Camshaft position sensor replaced by me at 34,000 miles and front sprocket recall performed by dealer. Bike now has almost 50,000 miles.

2012 RTL - 20K miles total - replaced air compressor
2014 RTL - 50K miles total - replaced speed sensor
2022 RTL - 10K miles total - schrader valve air leak repaired. Battery replaced as preventative maintenance at ~ 6K miles due to BRP's poor stock battery.

2020 F3S with 41,000 miles. It's only been back to the dealer once for a loose clutch hub nut. I've never had a fault code. The OEM vibration damper roller failed and I replaced it myself with Lamonster's better design. That's it. It's been a great bike!

Every product forum could be called the “complaint department.” I’ve owned 5 Spyders since late 2010. Adding up the mileage of them put the total to date at over 215K. There were a few issues with each. But, they were all handled under warranty, I was never stranded and every dealer was attentive and fast in tackling and fixing them. I even have positive feelings and satisfactory performance from Kenda tires. ��

Personally, I think you're asking for information in the wrong place. A Cam Am forum will give you information about individual experiences. But not unbiased overall market data. I think you should look at reliability for motorcycles at places like Consumers Reports. That will give you unbiased hard data for overall reliability and repair frequency for the different brands. I have owned my Spyder for almost 8 years. It has been a great Ryde for me. I had a water pump go out after 17 months and warranty fixed it. Just before the warranty expired the coolant tank cracked at the seam. This was replaced by the extended warranty. I had purchased the 3 extra years.

You know that people have will always have a little problem with anything that they own.

For me I'm happy with my 2016 Spyder RTL.
It has only been to the Dealer for the first oil change. A rear tire replacement. The two above problems and the Safety items.

My truck seems to have been made on a Friday. Let's get it done and get on with the Weekend.
Been to the Dealer more times than I can count.

Oh well, just let the good thoughts flow and get on down the road.

4 Spyders - 290,000 miles

Our first 2011 RT had some ongoing issues with several warranty throttle body and lean #2 codes. The '14 RT-S, the '15 RT, and the '16 F3T, all with the 1330 SE6 platform, have been good, with only 1 Fuel pump and the front sprocket recalls, etc. which were all under warranty. The 1'5 RT and '16 F3T are still rolling smoothly with 69 K and 89 K miles and counting...

I owned a 2013 RT-S, which I bought in 2014 knowing about the heat issue. BRP sent out a recall within the first year of owning it. Never back in the shop for unexpected failures, only maintenance. I rode it from KC to the Outer Banks, Michigan UP, South Dakota, Breckenridge, and Phoenix.

In 2020 I bought a new 2020 RTL. Rode it to Alaska and 9000 miles in 2022. Bike ran great! I only did the required maintenance and fitted new tires done before the trip. It's a machine and things can happen, but I've been extremely pleased with the reliability.

Hope this one works out for you! I recently sold my 2018 F3 Limited with 79,0008 miles...I put on 75,000 of them and only had a few issues, none that ever caused me any major grief...can't say that about hubby's HD...his hydraulic clutch let us down a few times. I have a leftover 2023 F3L SES now ...purchased 4/29/2024...so far, over 7500 miles. I think the key is regular service intervals and ride the Spyder! Best wishes!

It seems every forum and facebook page is full of problems and complaints on the Spyders. Any owners who have had no problems with their machines?I had a 2023 F3 that I bought used with 92 miles and it developed a water pump leak at 500 miles. Now I have a 2024 F3S which I just purchased new and I hope to have no problems with this one.

You've gotta remember Pantera, that there's something well over 110,000 of these 'Spyder' things out there now, and we might have just a smidge over 6,000 of their owners here as currently active members, so maybe this Forum represents as high a proportion of owners as 1 Spyder owner out of every 18 or so (btw, we've got over 130,000 threads and more than 1.5 million posts... more on that later. ) BUT, the important thing to realise & remember is that many of the members on this Forum & any others DO tend to post somewhat more about the problems they have than they do about the good things, cos they simply want resolution &/or a solution, so they ask - after all, that's at least partly why Forums exist, isn't it?? :dontknow:

Statistically, before the Internet came along and made it easier to access millions of people with one post, and back when it was vaguely possible to work this sorta thing out, the statisticians of the World pretty much agreed that generally, people would tell FIFTEEN others about a problem for every ONE person they told about a good thing!! :shocked: So do you think Forum members are still making 15 posts about every problem they have vs only making 1 for every good thing about their Spyders?? :dontknow: I have no idea... But I am pretty sure that many with problems/issues DO post more than once, and that every 'I've got a problem' post they put up reaches a helluva lot more than 15 people once it's posted on the Internet!!

Still, I really doubt that all of the 6,000+ currently active members (ie joined &/or posted within the last 12 months) that we have actually came here & joined simply to tell us about their Spyder problems & seek a resolution - there's quite a few here who are looking to buy and asking questions; others asking about what oil to use, or what tires to run, or what pressure they should run those tires at; and many others like that... Just have a look at the threads, there's a pretty significant proportion of the 130,000+ threads on the boards here that are simply USAGE questions, and NOT asking about how to resolve problems or making complaints! So extrapolating that out into the 'Rest of the World', even if we might have (maybe!! ) as many as 1 member here for every 18 odd Spyders ever sold, I'd say it only takes a vaguely educated guess to say that maybe only a half of our members have ever actively chased a problem or actively voiced a complaint, putting the number of those doing so here maybe as high as 1 out of every 36 Spyders sold... which suggests that... (albeit knowingly not considering those who may have had problems but aren't members here... )

possibly as many as 35 out of every 36 Spyders ever sold HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE!!

- or at least, if those Spyders have had a problem, their owner has never complained about it here!! nojoke

But personally, I reckon the number of Spyder Owners in the real World who've never had a REAL issue is likely even higher, cos I know that I grumble about the stupid things that BRP COULD fairly easily fix, but not only haven't they, they haven't done so despite people complaining about them for a long time - in many cases, over a decade!! Look at the Kenda tires; the inaccurate if not dodgy fuel gauges & low fuel warning lights; the number of ACS failures; the ACP fiasco; and that's just a few off the top of my head, we all know that there's more - and sure, they're bloody annoying things and it's a right pain that BRP just keeps on treating their customers like ignorant cash cows wrt things like this; but generally, while we might grumble about it every now & then, we pretty much just work around it and ride on! And I'm pretty sure that, despite voicing my issues/concerns occasionally, there's more'n just me who do that too! hyea:

So I reckon that it'd be a gross over-reaction to consider or even think that ALL Spyders are problem prone & not reliable on the basis of the reports or posts/threads in Forums OR anywhere else - even the various Consumer Reports & Stats, cos NONE of those take into account 'the Silent Majority' who just get on and enjoy their machines without ever complaining; nor do they consider the significant proportion of the population who simply DO NOT DO social media in any form; and neither do any of the various fora, surveys, &/or reports make any adjustments/allowances for the statistically significant impact of the 'I've got a problem so I'm gonna tell EVERYONE' nature of the humman animal, and that applies especially when you consider the vast reach of the internet, but still take into account how limited its reach may be...

I have 2015 RT-S with 91,000+ miles on it. Under warranty was the pump or bag for the rear shock. Replaced water pump just out of warranty. Replaced broken sway bar links. Last one was a relay died involved with the fuel injection or fuel pump (not sure). Fix was easy and price was not painful. My son is in possession of the 2015, since I purchased a 2023 RT Limited in July which has 2300 miles on it.

Since I tend to do 1,000-4,000 mile multi day trips I figured it was time for a replacement. The relay died just as I began crossing the Mid Hudson Bridge in NY. Not a fun day, Now just a story to tell.

If you go to social media looking for trouble you are sure to find it … anything mechanical can have issues and people post their troubles. You will find the answer both ways here and on other forums.
