• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

So it's my turn... (DPS issues)

I would definitely report it. Mine never threw any codes either. Mine also was ever so slight when it first started and I thought it was just me, or the wind blowing the bike around so I ignored it. Then IT happened and I almost wrecked my bike in downtown Atlanta. Please get it checked out and be safe.:2thumbs:

Well I got my Spyder back yesterday.

I got a call from Carlo at BRP on Friday afternoon telling me that he spoke with the service manager at my dealer and they were able to solve the issue relatively quickly and easily and that my service manager would be calling me. About an hour later he did and told me it was all done. They took it out on a 16+/- mile ride and it was perfect.

I picked her up yesterday and rode her 45 miles home and she never skipped a beat. I am going to have to learn how to steer all over again. There definitely is a noticeable difference in the steering.

So they tell me that there was some sort of software thing that had to be done regarding the steering angle sensor. Once they took care of that, the probably I had last weekend seemed to go away.

We shall see as time progresses if the fix will stick.

:congrats:

Very glad to hear you got it back, and it appears to be fixed.

What is the difference in the steering? Is it tighter now, or is it more of a floaty feeling? I have seen both situations posted on here, and am just curious.

It's more of a "floaty" feeling. Felt a lot like the steering on the RT actually.

My steering was hard from day one and got a good workout, everytime I rode. After the DPS was replaced it was a lot easier to steer and now have gone back to using the Bowflex, to work my arms and shoulders.:D

Best of luck to both of you and not having the problem again.

:roflblack: I was talking to my girlfriend last night about my Spyder and she said that the steering on hers was probably why she had to get surgery on her shoulder.

I do hope your girlfriend and her Spyder comes through the surgery without a problem. My chopper buddy had surgery on his rotator cuff about 4 months ago and needs another surgery on it. No riding for him for 4 to 6 weeks but knowing him, he will try it sooner than he should. The last time, he took his chopper around the parking lot of his condo, after 2 weeks and thought his shoulder was going to come off, the pain was so bad. I told him he needed a bike with power steering.:roflblack:

SpyderWolf, thanks! So far the new DPS has been fine with close to 1600 miles on it. The one thing I won't do is try and turn the wheels without the engine running. I don't know if that would contribute to the DPS problem but, I'm not taking any chances. With mine being a demo before buying it, who knows what was done to it and I often wonder why it wasn't noticed before, that it was hard to steer?

I'm still having a problem with the surging and the Check Engine scroll and light still comes on occasionally. My dealership has some parts on order and will call me when they come in. Leo the service manager said, seems the O2 sensor is the problem and has ordered several since, other's have or have had the same problem with both.

It's had the 3 updates.

Glad to hear the steering is still doing well. I hope they gets the parts in soon to fix the surge. It was driving me nuts when I had that problem after the initial recall work was done. My wife's Spyder did the same thing, and she was not a happy camper at all. We were less than 20 minutes from the dealership when she pulled over, called them and her cell phone and asked what they did wrong.

She is doing much better and desperately misses riding her Spyder.... it's been MONTHS since she has ridden. I told her what they did with ours and how it helped so much and I think this just might be what the doctor ordered for her. She hasn't had any of the updates yet, so we'll see.

After about 70 miles post-DPS update my Spyder is still doing very well. No surging, no lights, and steering as smooth as a knife through butter.

I also got a chance to test out my ISCI armrests, good stuff.

I am looking forward to buying my first one so I can have the chance to enjoy and experience all of the problems that come with owning one:2thumbs:....love this website!....all of the problems come here as they are found, and after they are repaired or serviced.....

I got a call Wed afternoon that the parts arrived and after my appt at the VA on Thurs. morning, I will be taking it over for the repairs. It's supposed to be a nice day after a wicked storm on Tuesday morning and a windy cold Wed and I do hope the fix is in this time.

carguy, We look forward to you getting your :spyder2: and do hope you don't have the problems some of us have had. It would be nice to have a trouble free machine but that's not possible, with any vehicle. I've experienced a steering lockup and was lucky I was able to jerk it free and wouldn't wish this on anyone. Some have gotten hurt and one has lost her life, although it's not for certain it was the steering from what I read. It just said she was on a Can Am Spyder.

Yes!! This is a great website with a lot of great Spyder Owners, past and non owners and one can learn a lot from them but, I do hope when you get yours, you don't have the problems many of us have experienced.

Best of luck with the VA appt and the repair to the Spyder. It should not take them long to do the work this time.

We are getting ready to leave for Daytona, and it is a balmy 27 degrees outside. This will be the coldest weather I have ever ridden in, and I am hoping to not turn into an ice cube before we get there. :yikes:

It's great to hear she is doing much better and I know how she feels. I was out of motorcycling for 32 years until the Spyder came along and just a few days of not being able to ryde is hard for me.

It's also good to hear that your new DPS is still working great. I just put another 102 miles on mine today and so far it's just as new as the day I picked it up, after the replacement. (Knock on Wood).

I took it over after leaving the VA and the Spyder tech was just about to take it into the shop, when he got a phone call. His wife was taken to the ER and he didn't know what to do. He looked at Leo, than me and I told him, I've waited this long and I can wait a few more days. He said he could do it Friday and I told him Saturday is better. He said thanks for understanding. I told him, I know what it's like to be taken to the ER. Even though I only remember being in the Ambulance and being taken out to be wheeled in. The rest I don't remember til I found myself up on the 5th floor.

It was a windy cold ride over and worse coming back, so perhaps Saturday will be better. 27*..............Brrrrrr don't even want to know what that feels like and just thinking about creating your own windchill gives me the chills, after the ride I had today. :yikes: Hopefully you'll find Daytona more to your liking, with all this global warming the country is experencing. :D
