• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Small drops on garage floor

Alright guys, because I'm a newb and slightly paranoid, can someone explain to me why there are small drops of a clear fluid(almost smells like alcohol) coming from the drain hose on the right side, mid machine underneath? The drain hose reminds me of an a/c drain on a car and I know it's normal in the automotive world, just want to confirm all s well with the spyder.

Perhaps coolant possibly caused by hair line crack in the coolant resevoir or the hose involved with the resevoir? Should look greenish in color.

Chris

No color, completely clear and when I do a sniff test, almost smells like rubbing alcohol. I'll also add that when I look at it while hot, I can see what appears to be vapor fumes(if that makes sense) coming from the hose.

Most likely Coming from the evaporate canister,
Believe it or not on the Spyder.' if it's not excessive it's considered normal.

I'd guess that it could smell like watered down fuel. The amount s only about the size of a quarter on the floor, so definitely not excessive. My worry is, is this something normal and something to worry about in the future? Why would the evap canister be venting and dropping fluid? Maybe got too aggressive fueling?

My observations are probably what you are observing. There is a tendency on some Spyders under the right conditions, although others here claim they have not had this problem, for the fuel to boil. Mine has and at times still does even though I've taken steps to lessen the heat within the confines of the plastic. Even when it's not boiling the fuel can get hot enough to give off vapors rather vigorously which you indicate you have already observed.

Next time this happens pop the fuel cap and stick you ear near the filler. You'll know if your fuel is boiling or not. Don't inhale while you're doing this though!

I, like others, have tried to get every last drop into the tank that it would hold. The result of that was soaking the canister pretty good. Probably why BRP says not to do that! I now place the nozzle at least two inches into the tank and when it shuts off I let it be. Fuel gauge says it's full which means nothing more than the float is as high as it's gonna go. I've yet to discover just how many gallons that's supposed to represent. Never the less a new canister (thank you BRP) didn't change anything.

PM me if you will. Next time I'm in your neighborhood maybe we can meet.

That is the emissions canister vent. Blame the ethanol on today's fuels for it smelling like alcohol. At least yours doesn't smell like gas.

So... Normal and good to go? 600 mi service is coming up, mention to dealer or live with it?

Normal and good to go. Most people never notice if they have condensate drips from the vent. You can always mention it to the dealer, but their first answer is usually "Don't overfill the fuel tank,"

I guess that puts my mind at ease...sort of...
I'd still prefer nothing dripping, I can be a little OCD with my vehicles.
Thanks everyone!

Dib52, I can understand and appreciate where you are coming from. I'm guessing I have around the same amount of mileage as you because I'm just about due for the 600 mile service too. With the Spyder RT being so new, and so uniquely different to me, I have no idea what is normal and what isn't. I figure the confidence in the machine will come in time. The pure fun and enjoyment of it starts immediately!
